Soundcard advice - Live performance - switch between MAC &

Post by Mr Lager » Thu Aug 09, 2007 2:24 pm

Im looking for a (cheap) portable sound card for my Macbook pro to do some live performance with ableton
I also have an akai MPD24 which I will be using as a controller

I know that this will operate as usb but I would like to sync it to ableton using Midi

Can anyone suggest a soundcard to do this for me?

(I also have an Alesis IO24 linked to my PC - Its just a real pain switching between PC and Mac and I fear i would probably end up doing this incorrectly and damaging my IO24 - and suggestions on how to do this safely would be appreciated)

P.s. should i save money and just use my alesis fo both workstations?

Dunno how prices compare, but I like my PreSonus Firebox. Separate phones cue with its own, real, actual knob on the front of the box.

+1 Presonus Firebox

All I've known,
All I've done,
All I've felt was leading to this.

Why? Using midi will both be slower (lower transmission speed) and require some sort of extra hardware. What is wrong with USB?

It is not like it will sound better over ordinary midi...

it was my understanding that the mpd24 has to use the 3rd party software inorder to utilise the usb? I try and avoide these software inclusions wherever possible.
if this is not the case then I will give it a go

No 3rd party software or drivers are necessary for using the MPD24 via usb in Mac OSX.
