I need a cheap (Free) piano plug in for mac..

Post by chrisedmo » Tue Aug 14, 2007 7:45 pm

Does anyone have any recommendations for some decent piano VST's or AU for the Mac.. there seems to be loads for PC, but not many for mac.. ive searched KVR...

I really need acoustic piano sounds like the ones in garageband, but i want to keep everything inside Live..

Oh and ive tried that 4front thing - but its nasty..

Any help, would be greatly appreciated! (I dont have sampler either!)

instead of looking for a plug=in look for a soundfont.

you can play a soundfont w/ crystal synth(free)
or you can play a soundfont w/ the apple dls synth (free, and should have come with your computer)
for lots of great records, check out,

Sorry, man, 4front is as good as it gets for a free VSTi. If you want good quality, you'll have to fork out some good money. BTW, if you reach that point, I highly recommend pianoteq. I personally haven't bought a copy yet, but I played around with the demo and was really blown away.

MDA Piano is the best free VST/Mac piano I've found to use with Live--includes several different sampled piano presets. Low CPU drain too.

Here's the download page:
http://mda.smartelectronix.com

Click on "mda Piano for Mac OS X."

ePiano is their free Rhodes plug-in--haven't tried it though, although the other MDA plug-ins I have are worth far more than their price of $0.

Crap--forgot to specify to click on "VST Synths" on the blue menu bar on that page.

But check out their VST effects too.

Thanks for the tips guys - I think the soundfont idea is the best - ive gone mad with them now and downloaded organs and trumpets - they sound great and very light on the CPU!!

Just the trick.

if you own Sampler you can use all the pianos from GarageBand in Live as they are just EXS patches. they are pretty damn good too.
