Buying New Controller... advice? (replacing Axiom 25)

Post by Grahambo! » Mon Aug 13, 2007 4:13 pm

Well, in case you didn't read my other thread, my Axiom 25 broke the other day. It was my first and only controller (bought it 3-4 months ago). It fell off my stand/desk and onto a pile of sweatshirts I was giving to GoodWill *phew*. But it's broken. A friggin' glass vase could have survived that fall, but apparently not the M-Audio Axiom 25.

It won't power on. I've tried DC adaptors, changing the USB, opened her up and checked for loose wires. Nothing. It's crapped out. It may be something simple to fix, but I bet it will cost an arm and a leg to A) get it to and from M-Audio and B) to repair it. I might as well just get a new one.

So: Should I get another Axiom 25? Or maybe dish out a little more and get an Edirol PCR-300 or maybe a Novation SL 25? I wan't something compact. And I really don't wanna spend too much. The SL 25 looks prime, but it's a little expensive.

Any suggestions? Sorry if this is a lame post. I'm bored.

if you need a piano keyboard on your controller : pcr300, its solid, simple and useful. a friend of mine has got it, the pads, keys, faders and pots are great.

remote sl is really plastic , and, yes expensive ,since the automap is not really the paradise it aimed to be... (but I just touched it, not tried...)

if you do NOT need a keyboard : FADERFOX LV2, it is soooo great and... really compact ;)

cheers

ummmm poor review from someone who hasn't used it. it's more expensive but pretty damn handy. automap is damn cool, I don't know why monstre would comment on something he hasn't used.

stay away from M Audio. go to a store, feel, hold, bang on a few, see what you like, seems like you know the players in the field.

Faderfox still rules though.

Or get Dexter.

Remote SL - very handy, and fun to mess around with. Plasticy, but functions very well. I got my SL 61 for $300 so I can't complain about the price :P

Did you buy that from a shop? If so it should still be under warranty. Tell them it just puttered out (don't say you dropped it) and you'd like to send it back for replacement or something. You will have to cover shipping (Probably around $50USD if mailed from the states), but M-Audio should take care of you with no other out of pocket expense.

I just replaced my Axiom 25 with an E-MU Xboard 25.

I am much happier now.

well... a little follow up:

I called M-Audio and agreed to send it in to them. We'll see what they say when they get it.

In OTHER news, I'm transferring to the University of Illinois this Fall, and moving into my apartment this Thursday (August 16th), so I got a little "going away" present ($$$ :) ). I stayed home for two years and went to a community college near my house, so now I'm finally moving out and will be a Junior at the University of Illinois. So... I used that money and bought a NOVATION 25 SL. If I fix the Axiom, cool, and I'll sell it to my friend who is looking to get into the MIDI craze. If not, whatever, I got my new baby. :D

How's that? 8)

Since you only had the Axiom for a few months and if there is no sign that it took a fall why not return it to the store you bought it from?

you're right Tone deft,

I "reviewed" remote SL although I did'nt try it, mea culpa sometimes I can't avoid saying anything about anything... ;)
(but the statements I made about it were those which made me decide not to buy the SL after reading thousands of topics/reviews... perhap's do I want not to regret not having bought it ??)

cheers
