I am leaving mac for PC- change Motu ultralite for ???

Post by leandrogonza » Wed Aug 15, 2007 12:12 am

I been a mac user for 3 years. And i really like it.
But all my friends in Buenos Aires Argentina, use Pc, and it is very easy for me to get tons of software thru them.
For mac i was obliged to purchase on my own.
And living in Argentina that is very hard, considering and argentinian peso is equal to 0.30 dollar.
You have to be a millonaire to set up a Mac with original soft.

So i am selling my imac G5. And getting a PC.

I've read all around this forum, of all kinds of problems with the motu ultralite on PC.
On my mac it had work great.

But i will have to change my ultralite for something similar but that it would work fine with PC's

any suggestions???

thanks

At least you're honest with the only reason that people change from Macs to PCs, pirated software.

There's also plenty of decent freeware.

The Ultralite works perfectly fine on my mac AND pc. Just make sure you buy a firewire card for your PC that has the right chipset. That is almost always the reason people have problems.

About 5 years ago I switched to PC specifically because of all the "free" software I could get from my friends who were of course all software resellers of high integrity and moral fiber. But when I did, instead of writing music I played a bunch of video games, made stupid pictures in photoshop, pirated a bunch of songs, and reinstalled my system software every 2 months. Now I'm back on a Mac, paying for software and music, and writing songs.

I'm not saying writing music should only be a luxury of the rich but you can't tell me people aren't drawn to PCs because of all the "free" software they can get from their "friends". And yes, I do know there are a lot more legitimately free plugins for PCs but I doubt anyone is sitting there writing music with nothing but the free plugins and are completely content with it when their friends have a "free" copy of commercial software they can install.

It's perfectly easy to get pirated software for Mac if that's your goal - I think that the perception that PC's have all the cracks if just plain untrue - mac users are thieves too!
Can you hear it?

I know there is cracked software for Macs but there is far more for PCs. I'm sure that will change as more people switch over to Macs, but I think Mac users have a different mentality. If they are going to drop that much money on a computer they don't want to gum it up with cracked software.

Eh, didn't mean to hijack the post here, but the really funny thing about the original point of the post is I've seen way more posts about the ultralite not working with Macs than PCs, so it's almost pointless to look into other options.

I've used the Ultralite on both a Mac and a PC, and it works flawlessly. Make for goddamn sure that you have a firewire card with a Texas Instruments chipset though.

thanks for all responses!

It is great that i read of the importance of having a TI chip on the firewire card of the pc.
Cause i have read a lot of reviews even in musicians friend about the trouble with pc and ultralite.

Mac users dont get angry, i am not saying i leave mac cause it sucks!
I Love mac. The computer is really nice out of the box.
And i personally love the imovie, itunes i photo, and all those media managing
that is really nice. The screen are outstanding. And the OS is a dream.
Crashes every 2 years, instead of 2 months as windows.

I may get a new macbook and try the bootcamp thing.
So that way, i could get everything for pc too.

But in a way i dont see the point of buying a 2k computer, if i am gonna run windows on it 80% of the time.

Anyone using the ultralite in macbook pro___???

Could i be able to work 80% of the set on windows, save the file in an external HD, and then keep working on it on OSX__?? of course asuming that i converted all my VST Tracks on audio tracks.

thanks again
