OT Minimonsta box vs download content?

Post by muthafunka » Tue Aug 14, 2007 2:29 pm

Looking to spring for Minimonsta in the next few days, can anyone tell me what's in the box? Can't find anything regarding this after fairly extensive Googling. If there's no printed manual etc then might as well just do the download version.

Usually a printed manual and a CD, if my boxed impOSCar is anything to go by.

The printed manual you can also get as a PDF (you can download it from M-Audio.com if you want it - G-Media manuals are always full of interesting info about the instrument, nice to read).

But you don't really gain by getting the boxed product, and with the download you get it quicker... :)

check out novamusik.com. I got it there for about $70 about a month ago and got everything except the box, got the CD and the printed instructions, just no box.

Thanks all, checked Novamusik, all $149 now, guess they were having an open-box special. Download it is then!

That sucks. I tried looking there for you too. It was there for that price for awhile. Oh, well. I thought it was crazy they were selling it for that low just because you didn't get the box...although I do love my shelf of music software boxes. It's a great softsynth though at whatever price you pay, well up to what is reasonable.

No sweat, thanks for the thought. Is it password protection? No dongle challenge/response etc?

All you need is the serial number and you are set.

Just as a sidenote though and I haven't inquired about it, but I'm using it on a Macbook Pro with Live 6 and it seems to change the preset sounds at random sometimes, not just on reloading a set but I could stop the song and when I restart it, it sounds different. It may not even be a different sound but a different octave. I'm not sure what is buggy but I haven't checked into it yet either and I do have the latest version... I think.

Very strange you should mention that as I remember using it on a friend's machine some time ago and now and again it'd do reaaaaaally strange things--simply moving a block of midi would make some parameters change, some semed to be being randomly written in the clip. I think I might have a screenshot somewhere, I'll try track it down. That sucks--did you ever contact the developer/hear anything from anyone else?

Now that you mention it, and I haven't used it for awhile, I do remember that when I would duplicate or copy and paste a part in arrangement view it would change about a half dozen of the parameters in the duplicated section and I would have to go in and manually delete the parameter markers to bring it back to normal.

I never did contact them on that but now I'm annoyed just thinking about that again. I'm gonna have to contact them, especially if something like this happened to your friend.

Found them. So the second pic is exactly the same chunk of midi as the first, ALL that's been done is that it was dragged a few bars to the left and as you can see the Osc 3 range parameter now suddenly has a huge jump in it, not only this but 3 or 4 other parameters too. (if Live had mult-lane automation editing I'd be able to show you them all ;)) What on earth is this all about. No other Minimonsta users experiencing anything like this?

(btw I know the clip says ms020 but it was MM as the track name says and it was freshly written data, not anything generated by the ms20 etc)

Got your PM. I'll fire an email off to support after work. That picture and what you described is exactly what I am experiencing. That seems like a pretty major bug and hopefully they will have a fix for it.

If you're going to Nova Musik, you can get the entire Future Retro pack for $199. Includes impOCSar, Minimonsta, Oddity, and M-Tron (with all of the tape banks). No printed manuals, though, but for the price, I think you can settle for a PDF.
