Makie Onyx Satallite

Post by leodabatc » Sun Aug 05, 2007 1:08 pm

is there ANYTHING as feature packed as the Onyx Satallite? I'm looking for an interface and I'm constantly drawn to it, but Iv'e heard of some quality issues. I can't find anything at this price range that offers the things it does but I dont wont to regret it if it breaks :S

Has anyone here got any experience with it/ can recomend something else?

Thanks guys

i use it on a macbook . have just recently and for the first time plugged a microphone into it. good preamps. its built like a tank. it will NOT break on you. it sounds very good to my ears. i guess it depends what you want to do with it.
its pitty that it cant have the multi outputs without the base station. because all together, its a pretty heavy beast, and catches a lot of space.
i like how its built. the knobs. the fact its firewire... and the price. i would also look at NI Audio Kontrol1, as they fixed some issues with firmware update. but its USB. i had it once and gave it back. it fits more to the laptop DJ concept than the onyx.

hhhhhhhhm, shweet. It was more things like the sound breaking up after a while of use and stuff :S

I've never heard an opinion from someone who has had it for a long time. Also, because I'm just a paranoid kinda guy, I question the reason the price has been slashed sooo much, surely there is a reason for such an extreme cut?

i'm gigging with it 2/week
Never had a problem.I have it from 3 moths now and i already had 15 gigs or so without any problems. But i'm on a macbook pro.On OSX works like a dream with very very low latency 20 samples buffer without glitches. And very stable also.

On the other hand on XP i had problems with it.glitches etc etc with 512 samples buffer.Maybe because of the xp drivers i don't know. But it was unusable.Sound stopped very often.

If you have a Macbook/macbook pro i say go for it.You don't need drivers because it connects directly to core audio. So it integrates very well into osx.

Hope this helps you
mihai

PS>the sound of it is warmer compared with RME FW400 which i also own.it has that "mackie" sound.

I ended up buying it, the first one the firewire wouldnt work on the base station, so I took it back, got a new one, and this time the power wouldnt work anymore. I took it back again and just bought Reason with my money instead.
