Ableton suddenly quits unexpectedly; new problem

Post by leathr19 » Mon Aug 20, 2007 2:07 pm

Hello:

Ableton has suddenly started quitting unexpectedly on me. It's been working fine for the last 3 months, but now will quit even if I only have one track running. I'm using version 5.2 and run a bunch of Native Instruments VST plug-ins, including Massive, Battery, and FM8. I freeze tracks when I'm not using them so I'm not sure what the problem is and why it suddenly started happening...

Have a new iMac, 2GB RAM and don't run anything else when using Ableton. Someone help please, otherwise my electronic dance career is over!!

Cheers

It's possible that one of your VST plugs conflict with Ableton. If that's what's happening, then uninstalling and installing the VSTs one by one over some time will show you where the trouble is.
A re-install may help in any case.

Did you install a group of VST plug-ins all at once?

Interesting. I have a similar problem. But I run 6.0.3 on a PC.

Never had a problem but after reinstalled the system and of course Ableton and all my vst:s, Ableton suddenly looses contact with the external sound card and everything is quiet.

I have reinstalled Live and the sound card drive routines. Several times.

I have also deleted most of my programs, and I have inactivated most of the unnecessary hardware.

Before I reinstalled the OS I never had any problems…????

Ableton suddenly quits

Post by GUY SMILEY » Fri Aug 24, 2007 9:39 am

This sudden quit happened to me last night when I was trying out a batch of free plugins. Ruby Tube rocks btw !
My VST directory is a series of 'shortcuts' to the 'real' directory elsewhere on my harddrive - as this enables me to organise them into groups (compressors etc etc)
I had moved the 'Liquid stereo' shortcut from one directory to another, and this was what caused the sudden crashing. moved it back, and it all works OK.

My advice if you're getting this error would be to rename your VST directory (so that Ableton can't see it anymore) and check ableton works ok.. then rename vst directory back again, boot up ableton and see if it works, (or falls over at a specific point in vst scan through) if it still just crashes try moving dll's of newish plugins out of the directory and work out whats causing teh problem that way
