Have Daft Punk 'Sold Out' or 'Cashed In'?

Post by JonnyEQ » Wed Aug 22, 2007 9:44 am

Regarding Kanye West's new track, i absolutely hate it. But whats even worst to me is that Daft Punk have callaborated with him. Im not a hater of Rap/House fusion. Its just that i feel Daft Punk must know that they are going to get abuse from there peers regarding this track. What do you think?

a cheque for lots of money tends to soften the blow of criticism.

Cashed in.

I'm guessing that Kanye throws buckets of money at potential collaborators. It's obvious he wants people to think that money is no object to him (which it may not) so the real badasses can ask for more because of this projected frivolity. Too bad these projects seem to fall short of their potential (this and the Gondry vid).

But who cares? DP now has funding for their next album and a really nice vacation. I'd do it too.

Yeah - working with Kanye can't take away from what they've done in the past.

P.S - I fookin' hate Kanye.

Woz crackin?
I guess the plastic rapper just saw "the science of sleep" in his giganto home cinema and now wants to be a little bit *european*

Its just because of the gondry vid i suppose, this was a bundled deal...

kanye: make me a cool vid michel, like, like, the white stripes but better, ghia!

michel: okay, team up with my mysterious friends DP and i`ll think about it ...
and thinks: your beats suck that much ass, i want to be able to listen to the musich when im sitting in the editing room

+1 for cashed in

what are you talking about? there was no point where they were "underground" and sold out or anything liek that...they've always been a commercial pop group.

Hmmmm, this is interesting. Im gonna add a spin on it, maybe its a case of getting into the main stream. I don't feel Daft Punk are pop yet...i think they are on there way to becoming pop!

thats your opinion of course :). on the other hand as a working DJ and Producer I can't say I've met anyone who would book them for a night as their not respected as EDM artists but more as commercial acts (nothing wrong with it but ofcourse there are differences). It's like saying Madonna is EDM act. just because it has a beat over pop riffs doesn't make it legitimate dance music. When's the last time Danny Tenaglia, David Mancuso, Steve Lawler or Sander K had a video on MTV?

They became Pop with their first Album.
I don't understand the fuzz everybody makes because something is not *underground*...
Justice isn't underground either, that doesn't make their music older or un-original or uncool.
Pop is just another Label we tend to put on everything, the fact that there is much more money involved makes ppl (bedroom *producer*) jealous all the time.

try to be that original,

These bookers just wish they could afford Daft Punk..

Have you seen their live show?

Daft Punk underground? Maybe when they had that Soma release out but after that it's all major labels and pop charts.

That Kanye track is ok for a pop song. The original DP track wasn't any good anyway and benefitted form the slowing down treatment.

I don't care for rock concerts...although I certainly respect their lighting rig.

As far as underground vs not, I should have been more clear, sorry! It came across a bit elitist so I apologize but what I'm meaning to say is while catering to the masses to get people into music they wouldn't otherwise be into, is ok..it gives people the assumption that their slightly less ignorant than they are. I've come across too many americans who've seen daft punk in concert saying they went to a "rave". Please. It's like going to a Creed concert and saying you went to a goth party or something. what a joke.

And by the way, while Justice is certainly decent at putting together releases, rehashing the same 2001 electro bass over and over is hardly original in and off itself.

I can not STAND Spawnmaster trashing all these "popular" and successful acts.

Dude, I went to your website where you posted your two tracks.....let me just say, you have no place to talk.
