My DIY Ipac Foot Controller

Post by SubQ » Wed Aug 22, 2007 11:59 pm

Hi all,
I built a foot controller for live looping and no hands navigation.

ImageImage

ugly as hell, but light, sturdy and functional:)

In white the navigation arrows; In black, 4 loop channels play-stop or navigation trough browser-device-session, clip view, undo and quantization when shift (the only button with a led) is pressed.

the FCB was too big for what I wanted. It doesnt send midi , just letters. Fine for me, since all midi is taken by my foxes and BCR.

Pieces
Ipac VE
12 NO Pushbuttons and 1 NC footswitch (for shift mode)
1 lead (for lights when shift is pressed)
Mogami cables
Ahkey
I made a light metal case, 35x10cm
some holes

and voilá! Now I am a band. no more email reading onstage

spent about US150. parts and labor

all the best, some vids soon.

not sure if I understood...
the heart of the footcontroller is an interface named IPAC (google it), most used for arcades, etc, cos it sends letters and QWERTY combos vai usb to the computer. So basically you can wire up anything, from buttons to joysticks, etc.

Resuming, its not a usb keyboard:)

Ahhh! sorry, i missed the Ipac bit. never heard of em before, but sounds interesting. the reason i thought you'd used a USB keyboard was a friend of mind built an installation where he disassembled a computer keyboard and somehow used the key triggers as switches under a false floor to trigger sounds in a room - quickest and dirtiest button job i've ever heard of!! yours is much nicer.... :D

well, it's really easy. I don't have any special knowledge about circuitry, eletronics and such. Just bought the Ipac - Machinate shed the light on this one - the right pushbuttons (must be normally open, but the shift is a normal footswitch to keep the key pressed while in navigation mode), some cables, velcros (to attach the ipac) and someone to built a metal case for you.

Im a bit outta time here, but fell free to PM me if there's something else ou wanna know.

some vid soon, i hope.

peace
