Live is scanning entire C:/ drive for plugins. big mistake

Hi Everyone,

I just got installed Native INstruments Komplete 4 to use with Live. In the Live Preferences, I selected the folder that i believed the Plug-ins to be in. Live could only find about half of the NI plugin's in that folder for some reason. So after trying a few other folders, I made live search my entire C:/ drive upon start up..... big mistake. Now everytime i start live it starts scanning my entire computer until it hits something it doesn't like and crashes.

I can't open live so i can't disable it from doing this. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling live, but somehow the preferences to search my C:/ drive remain. Im sure there are some files being left in the registry after the uninstall and i don't know how to find them or get rid of them.

Please someone help!

If you are on PC, go to c:\Documents and Settings\[your name here]\application data\ableton\live [version number here]\Preferences and rename preferences.cfg to preferences.cfg.old - if that doesn't cut it do a search here for 'trash preferences'.

If you're on a mac I don't know

I'd trash the preferences.cfg instead of renaming it. Reboot afterwards and start Live. Now, you'll be able to reset your folder.

Also, if you're on a Windows machine, you'll need show hidden files and folders turned on in Windows' view menu to find your preferences.cfg; the application data folder and its subfolders are hidden by default.

Hi,

Just to be exact: renaming or trashing will have the same effect: Live will create a new Preferences file on the next restart. If you renamed it though, you get in most case a useless file so Ewistrand is right.
There is no need to reboot the machine though. Restarting Live is enough to re-create a Preferences file.
