Live 6.0.7 - Freeze PC

Post by jens@primitive-visions » Mon Aug 13, 2007 2:31 pm

Hi,

i setup my computer new... to solve this problem but is the same :-( now... maybe someone have the same problems or can help to find out if it is a driver, software/vst oder live specific problem....

I have Dell Inspiron 9300 (1.73 GHz, 1.5GB DDR2 SDRAM) Laptop and use a M-Audio Audiophile USB, a Evolution UC-33e and a Korg MS-20 Controller. All have newest driver also the chipset and everything else in my laptop.

If I open Live it works fine and fast... and everything is ok till i try to close my live. Sometimes it won't even close and if it is closed only the window dissappaear not the Live process is killed. and it is impossible to kill it!! It is even impossible to restart or shutdown by software or start anything like the task manager. I have to do a hard (5 sec. pressing ON/OFF) shutdown/restart.

any other software using ASIO work correct...

Anybody an idea how to find the guilty? and how to fix it? maybe some incompatibilities? :-(

I also have the same problem except that Live freezes in the middle of sets. Same behavior when I try to close, reopen, can't kill process, have to restart, etc. I have an Inspiron 630m (equiv to XPS), M-Audio Fast Track Pro, and the EV X-Session (the original one). Our hardware seems to be similar...

Hello,

You should update to 6.0.9, and if you still have the same problem, write to [email protected], providing these informations:

This seems like the same problem I've been having (http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=70340)

It's the same thing, but it seems to happen to specific files.

I'm going to install 6.09 now and see if that helps.

Update:

I switched back to my production computer just now, and Live 6.07 had actually
opened the file - it just took an insanely long time. I installed Live 6.09, and
tried opening the file again, but the same thing happened. I started my
stop watch when I opened the file, and it took a whooping 2 and a half
minute before the file was open! When the file is open, the CPU meter
shows 4% usage. I simply don't get this...

Anyway: I've simply assumed that the file was corrupted, cause Live freezes
up. When I hit ctrl+alt+del to force Live to quit, the app quits, but the process
does not, and I have to restart the computer, just like the original poster
describes. Also, if I save the project while working on it, it takes forever for
Live to complete the saving process and return control of the app to me.

So, to the others who are experiencing this problem: try to wait a minute or
five, to see if anything actually happens eventually. At least it seems that our
work isn't completely lost, but this is a quite serious bug, which must be
fixed. :x

Hi,

same thing here.

It appears to me it's even worse in version 6.0.9.

In the middle of a session CPU goes up to 50% (on one core) and I can't kill the process afterwards.

I'm not 100% sure, but it seems to be related to lots of midi I/O going on (esp. syncing). I'm using lots of midi ports. Although the majority of them is switched off in the preferences dialog.

Renders live for me almost useless ...

Gear: Athlon X2 4800, 1 GB RAM, Asus A8n-SLI Premium, Fireface 400, midi express xt

Any help would be appreciated

Update:

I've solved my problem! It was a VST after all that was causing the problem.
So if any of you have the VST called FreqAnalyst (the free one) from Blue Cat
in your set - you should try removing that VST from your VST folder before
opening your set. In any event: If you are using VSTs in your problematic set,
you should remove them one by one, until you figure out which one is causing
the crash/freeze.

Oh, by the way: With Live 6.09 the Live process also ends when I force
quit the non-responsive application, so at least you won't have to reboot when
Live crashes! Good luck :)
