not more than 4 years ago, i gave up my job to start in a BIG receptive theatre, (un)loading trucks and rolling cables after the shows. the soundguys immediately saw that i was interested and had some home studio experience. they let me do smaller productions in the small rooms, once a year we had a youth holiday music camp with a show at the end, so there i was sitting behind a Midas Legend 8O on the way i picked up lots of lighting and video too.
now i'm chief technician for a smaller travelling company. i'm on the road doing sound, light and video, for new productions i do video editing and make soundscapes. the pay is good but i'm not gonna be rich, i have more than two months off per year, it's social, i can surf the web with an excuse, way less wannabe's, there's a lot more girls waiting for you than in R'n'R if that's your thing (actresses, dancers, girls in the office, all much tastier and more refined than the music business groupies),...

well, you can conclude from my reply, there's also a bunch of male technicians waiting for you then...
my experience is that female tech trainees get way more attention and interesting chores, so there you go. :P
