Crystal Method: The Tenacious D of Electronica?
Crystal Method: The Tenacious D of Electronica?
I don't know how I came across this video or why I sat through it in it's entirety. They do plug Ableton towards the end. I've seen them live but I don't think I've ever "seen" them. A lot of Electronica artists are hiding behind a wall of gear or in their case a huge wall of fog. Anyhow, as I was watching it I couldn't help but notice how they remind me of Jack and Kyle of Tencious D (minus the comedy). I don't know why I have this image in my head that all Electronica dudes are tall and skinny with a shaved head.

Am I wrong here? Maybe they'll do a Big Beat cover of Jesus Ranch. I would enjoy that.

hi man the crystal method are ace they got called the american chemical brothers here in the uk and i thought that was well unfair..i prefer em to the the chems to be honest
im not to sure what they use for their live stuff but i do know they use ableton and reason to write their stuff ..its worth buying some of their albums man
I saw them live a few years ago and was thoroughly unimpressed. I have heard their music, but never been a big fan.
For some reason, one of the guys had his keyboard over only one side of the keyboard stand and throughout some of the tracks he was kind of rocking it back and forth like a see saw. I guess that spectacle made more of an impression on me than the music.

they are spectacular, but i do prefere the chems. they should have a new album out soon.
check out their mix albums "community service" they are also great.
Actually no you're wrong. They DO use reason. Check out this 2004 video from the M-Audio website:

In fact he's wearing a legend of boom tshirt so community service would have been released not too long before they came out this video, right?
So it's possible those release you thing are great could have been made with reason.
They said in there that they got so sick of updating software that it would take time away from making music. So for awhile there they just narrowed it down to using the same version of reason and never updating it.
I really liked that part. When everything is running perfect, I always want to keep it that way and never update my software. But something tantalizing always comes up and I give in....new features, bug fixes that affect me but then break other things in the process.
Vicious cycle....of not wanting to upgrade but then inevitably being forced to upgrade due to compatibility to other softwares, hardware configuration, etc. So I really enjoyed they said that, I could totally relate.

BTW, these guys were originally from central PA not to far from me. I remember hearing them say that in an interview on the radio long time ago.
