No, I would guess most of these people suffer from Asperger's/Autism or some other syndrome that inhibits social skills and interaction. To call them stupid is harsh. Even if they are perfectly 'normal' - FUCK, if some one wants to hit a rubber doll, it's none of our business. If they are happy, let them be. Who the fuck are we to judge them? At least they are honest.

Odd part to me is none of those guys have any real HUGE physical oddity in appearance. .

True...and the other points you raise are also valid, but these guys have all, to some degree or another, had terrible emotional experiences with females in their lives, so they end up turning to the constancy and (spurious) comfort of ersatz women. I don't think their self-esteem, appearance-wise, has as much of a bearing on how they've ended up like this.

I think you are right in that these people do have severe social inhibitions, but one thing that struck me right from the beginning was the sense of anxiety in these guys. That may stem from a number of different things, including the above syndromes (and the overall mood of the clip), but at any rate they do NOT appear "happy" to me.

At leat that was the impression i got from the poster that i quoted, who seems to see this the same way that i might once i've watched this video.
From reading this thread i get the impression that the guy's in the video are "Perfectly normal",, having followed the link to the site where these "Companions" are bought from, i would have to say that the "Normal" in the ideal is very subjective and bassed entirly on what mainstream society conciders and promotes as being the ideal. Large breasted woman with thin stomachs and disproportionate hips,, perfectly trimmed punani and stylized hair with soap opera make up,, any of these atributes can be found in any number of woman,, but about the only place you might find all of them in one place is in a porn movie or in woman that have fallen for the hype that men desire porn models,,, All of these images and ideals are reinforced every day through advertizing and the media and so,, if you buy into it,, your chances of finding the ideal companion are very limited. This option, however, makes an alternative available, hence the confusion,, There is comprimise in all things. But, that some one is so intrenched into trying to live up to the "Ideal" that they are prepared to comprimise actual human contact for an ultra realistic rubber doll is truly absured and also very sad,,,

People always rush to a physical conclusion, that it has to be some sort of genetic anomaly etc. but the guys in the video flatly state their reasons, and in every case it's all stupid. Like I said I don't mean stupid as a measure of intelligence, but stupid choices based on black and white thinking. In politics Fascism is probably the stupidest system, it's rigid, and mean, which is stupid.
these guys all gave up. The hang glider, I seriously doubt he joined multiple hang gliding groups searching for a girl who would like him etc. they all have bad logic. Bad logic = stupid.

I think we are repulsed by the implementation, more than the psych. And as with computers, one can only guess that technology will just improve and improve. Thus there may come a point where the a 3k doll will mimic the real thing to a very very very narrow point of divergence. Saying it's DAMN FREAKY will have only postponed/delayed the ponderance of the real question: Is that behaviour acceptable? why?

the notable thing is they all personified them - called them by their names and seemed to live in a fantasy

I guess if you really were that lonely then you could just create whatever reality you liked

the thing that actually disturbed me about it was the fact that they looked liked comatose or dead real people - almost like the next step would be creating clones with the brain growth genes removed so they could "grow" real ones that would be warm to the touch and more real feeling

it wouldnt surprise me

the other disturbing thing was the guy with the guns

if there is anyone you might imagine to crack the shits with humanity and go out blasting I would expect it to be someone who is completely cut off and isolated with no empathy for the people he is killing

whatever academic theories we can all come up with about the meaning or reason for this video, the one thing I know for sure is something about it stuck with me - in the same way a really disturbing film or something does, some part of it keeps popping into my head

it's food for thought anyway
