confused about routing midi sync for hardware and Live

Post by Robert » Sat Sep 01, 2007 7:48 pm

I've read the manual, and I think I've tried every combination. I just can't get my head around it.

I've read that it is best to sync midi to hardware rather than to Live.

I want to sync Live 5, and my access virus classic to my electribe EMX-1 so that when I use the EMX1 to programme drums, I can sync them to the virus when it is on an arp patch, [but also to have Live 5 as part of the set up].

The access virus has midi in/out plugged into the m-audio firewire.

The EMX1 has its midi routed via a korg padkcontrol and then into Live.

Live has the EXT button clicked on.

Does anyone know how I configure things so that I can route the midi clock from the Electribe EMX1 via Live to the access virus syncs to it? I can't seem to get the virus display to show that it is receiving midi clock signals.

thanks in advance for any advice.

I'm guessing that you're directing me to the manual here! - and in Live 5, the relevant section is 23.1 and yes I have read it!

Yes I can sync Live to the EMX-1, but I don't want to route the midi out from the EMX-1 into the access virus [I don't want to do this, because I don't want to trigger notes on the virus from the EMX I want to play the keyboard] I can't see how get midi clock signal to the virus [I've set the Virus so that it is ready to receive an external midi clock].

I've had another idea though, which is to use a midi-sport 4x4 for the electribe, the keyboard, and the virus - I'll see what happens!

I'm surprised my abbreviation is understandable.

OK, I don't know the EMX very much but is it right it can't be set up not to send MIDI? Then you could try to set up padKontrol (which I'm not an expert in either) to send on another channel than the EMX an tell your MIDI tracks to receive only on that channel. If this doesn't work you do have to seperate the signals by port (which I see you intend by using a 4x4-interface).
