um...maybe some sort of routing issue?
since the metronome also echos though, maybe it's something outside of ableton?
Are you bringing any outside signal in?
if so check your mixing board, maybe there's something routed weird there.
I had a similar problem a few days ago but it was from using JACK on my mac, I had the audio from Ableton in a weird way going back into ableton.
anyway hard to say from your post really.
does it do that on all sessions or just the one?

i had an issue with audio leaking into other channels. live by default creates and audio track with the inputs open [check the i/o settings]. so now i always have the channels set to "no input' and this stopped my echo / leakage issues.

problem solved!
i have finaly found out now (8 hours later) that it was the audio effect opt on in the control pannel.
somehow it had been changed from "paded cell" to "hall".
i had used the laptops shutdown sound to compare to ableton and see if the problem i had was still there....but the shutdown sound doesnt get affected by any effects (if that makes sense).
thanks to everyones help i just about figured this, and now hopefuly noone will havto go thru what i have to solve this problem lol!
!!and my laptop is gonna be used by only me!!
check out myspace/snafuprofile.com soon for my finished remix of dancin by eric morillo.

Re: unwanted echo
Back at it in 2021, posting incase someone has my issue/resolve which is a bit different from what worked before. My Able started having echo/reverb problems as soon as I took my laptop mobile leaving the Apollo interface at home. I had my input in Able set to MME/Direct but as soon as I started to write I noticed this hideous echo/verb on the kick. As Samurai mentioned the resolution was found in the computers control panel but instead of it being an audio effect for "hall" or "padded" mine was a signal enhancement that "allows extra signal processing by the audio device", once this was disengaged the echo/verb dropped out of Ableton. Hope this helps! Thanks to Samurai for getting me on the right track . I am using a new Razer Blade 14 fyi.
