Usually the mastering engineer is an ex-studio mixing engineer with decades of hardcore console work under his belt.

But I'm so with Tarekith; fuck the haters.

but £30 generally wont buy you enough time for said engineers to even listen to your song the whole way through.

My .02: make sure all those programs are legit copies.

I know what you mean man, but if you had a decent enough track and wanted it to sound a bit more "sexy". Without going mad, would you spend about £30 for somebody to master it on the internet?
if it was a pro looking site and all the works? :)

Check Bob Katz articles. there's a 3 dvd set by steinberg, nice stuff also.

but first of all, get good speakers, good conversion and try to master in a well treated (or at least well known) room.

I'm mastering a lot here in my studio. All I can say is there's always something to learn, and it's a lovely, artistic job. As a musician, my ears improved a lot after starting doing masters.

good luck there

You want me to teach you how to master, so you can take jobs from me after getting the idea from one of my posts?

No, I don't use any chat apps actually.
