Are the Logic instruments AU's or can you use them only inside of Logic?

$500 for Logic, Mainstage, Soundtrack, all the instruments, effects, loops, etc, that's a nice deal.. :!:

I can't believe people are like "meh", that's a LOT of studio power for the price. There's got to be a lot of DAW makers this morning going "damn".

For anybody that doesn't see any new features worth upgrading for.....I didn't buy Logic Pro because it's too damn expensive. Even if they did absolutely no upgrades to 7 and just relaesed that for the half price at $499 they are asking for 8 it would be worth it to me.

Apple is doing some serious price dropping lately. I think it's all part of their larger plan to squash Microsoft. They certainly have the hardware and stablity to do it. They just never had the prices to do it. Then all the Windows people can hang out with the vinyl DJs screaming "It will never die!!!!!!!"

this makes me think about buying a Macbook pro and Logic with student
discount and then try to forget about all the other (expensive) software out
there.
I would miss ableton VERY much, but an all in one solution for 500 $ which
is also kind of a studio standard just sounds very tasty....

WIll someone please point out features of Logic 8 (or any version of Logic) that would make this a better buy than Ableton?

I'm not trying to start an argument, I'm just at the point where I'm (finally) about to upgrade from arather old weatherd version of Live and I'm wondering if the money would be better spent purchasing Live. Even though it's a few hundered more to buy Logic, I still want to make sure I'm not missing something...

Thanks.

I don't understand people feeling they have to dump Live for Logic or vice versa. Why not use both? People do it all the time.

Yeah, I'll be upgrading to Logic 8 for sure, but I sure as heck won't be dropping Live to do so. They both have their distinct uses.

As for what's better in Logic than Live, that's easy, the plug ins and instruments. Sorry Ableton, but you get the whole Logic enchilada for less than the price of Sampler, Operator, and EIC.

That's what I figured, the instruments. I think the first VSTi I ever heard was the electric piano (ES something or other) about 7 years ago. I was amazed at how it sounded then and I can only imagine later versions have improved on that sound.

Maybe Live 7 will finally come with free instruments? Maybe not operator or sampler as that would create an iphone price reduction outcry and general bad pr for Ableton to the folks who recently purchased the plug ins. I dunno. Looks like they (Ableton) will have to do something to counter...

convolution reverb, sampler, synthesizers, step sequencers, drum machines, crossfading capabilities in arranger

these are a few things that caught my eye
no prevailing genre of music:

Right you are, this is _amazing_ value for money, I mean realy really amazing. Just the instruments included in Logic would be worth the price - pity they are not AU though (or are they now?).

i would like to use all the great Software out there for sure, but for me, who is a
student and who doesn t make money from music, unfortunatliy it s often about the money in the end.
It just gets insane very fast - ableton live plus operator + sampler...then Guitar rig...then some nice mixing plugs like wavearts or similar....then another synth...and so on and so on..perhaps a reverb?

Selling my pc and my software and buying a mac and logic just could stop this.

At least i hope so - but probably there will be always gearlust...

but it s tempting

They've truly changed the playing field in terms of price.

Ableton suddenly looks VERY expensive...

It will be interesting to see how this affects the market in the next few months...

Yup. It makes my rethink my MacBook plans again, which is probably the only reason for the price drop anyway.

I still have that old Logic 5 dongle somewhere...

All those synths, sounds and FX alone are well worth the upgrade.
