on Win XP 32bit: DEP crashes Live!!!

Post by clipless » Wed Sep 12, 2007 8:03 pm

there is a stupid problem with serice pack 2 DEP protection in Win XP. you can run Live for some time and you dont get aný truble at all with its functions (at all). We have always known Live as a super Satable sequencer that neve-ever-ever-ever crashes down.

Then comes the big day when stupid DEP blocks an attempt from Live to access some portions of the memory that are suposedly reserved for the system exclusive use. Once it happens Live begins to crash and burn suddenly all of the time!!! I deactivated DEP for the four versions of live I've installed in my laptop 6.0.1, 6.0.3, 6.0.7, and 6.0.10 the four of them have been detected by DEP on illegal memory accesses.

Abletons, please fix this issue!! it never happens in Live 5 (not even in Live 5.2.2) it has to do with someting in the programming of Live maybe.
I even got a crash when DJing in a friends club!!! It was so uncomfortable!!!

this morning I've had two crashes in less then 15 minutes!!!

My computer:
Toshiba tecra A6
Windows XP service pack 2 (last update was a couple months ago)
Genuine Intel Centrino @1.66GHz
512MB RAM
and I use:
An M-Audio Fast Track Pro
and an Evolution UC33e

I can honestly say that this has not been a problem for me until 6.0.10. I had the same thing as the original poster within a few hours of using the new version.

I also deactivated DEP for Live 6.0.10, but I have more crashes in the last few days than the last two years with previous versions of Live 5 and Live 6.

The crash always takes me instantly back to the desktop, but Live can still be seen in the Task Manager and cannot be shut down. Only be restarting the computer can you relaunch Live.
