TDM support too!!!!!!!!!

Post by ar10003 » Wed Sep 12, 2007 7:33 pm

Wow - I thought that was locked to ProTools. If we can use some of those higher end plugs direct in Logic, what would I need Protools for?

Well, considering you have to have digidesign hardware to use TDM (right?) I'm guessing Digidesign could care less.

In fact, haven't you been able to do this for a while with Logic?

This is an incredible value, no matter how you slice it. All this for $100 less than I paid for Waves L1 plugin 11 years ago.

logic looks nice and the price point is very good, but if you understand Live
and what Live is you know that all ableton would have to do is make it so that you can use the session view/ arrangement view at the same time... dual screen support and Live would continue to kill logic in it's sleep.

I don't think it is that simple. See previous 7 pages...

with the ill convolution reverb space designer, quality compressors, wavelab, soundtrack pro, electric rhodes emulator, very decent synths (multpiple) a new delay that sound great on paper, racks , GBs of samples sounds, a sampler, drummachine, guitar amp emulation,
i would say that logic is a deal at 500.
i had logic pro 7, for like 700 dollars, sold it, but back then it wasnt as beefed up as it is now.
i think ableton have to roll up their sleeves . i am not even considering buying sampler anymore for 200 dollars

+1000.

I would guess people have this attitude because they:

A) don't have the money to invest in multiple DAWs
B) don't want to have to learn more than one. (time is money and stuff)

However overall it has always confused me that people are like this (if they can afford not to be). I think the moment you lock yourself to a particular application, you learn one way of doing things that makes it more difficult to innovate.

I think the challenge of messing with different software and constantly learning new ways to make music is what keeps me motivated and innovative.

Some of my friends talk about "switching from this to that" but I don't' get it. I use mac and PC. I use Ableton and SX and many other things.

It's not an either or thing. Everything has their quality. The day i get really comfortable with ableton, I'll probably use something else. :-D

It does look as if Apple would like people to gump Live though. Adding in the live performance software in the package, copying some of the workflow, etc... all seems to me a pretty agressive attempt to corner the music software market and kill, in particular, Live.

For me, it all comes down to money. I won't spend $200 dollars on one "Sampler" if I can get that, a few great synths, effects, etc for a few $ more.

(I wonder how the Propellerheads are feeling today since V4 hits in 2 weeks? Prolly not too good.)

I always contended that Sampler was too much money. If it was cheaper I would already own it, as I'm sure many other hold-outs would too. Now it looks to be too late.

Need I say it anymore?
15" PB 2.5 Ghz, 4 Gig RAM, 750 GB HD, Live 9 still no cue points or program change messages?!?. Doesn't do shit.

Agreed!

I have been away from using Live since v4 and recently got back into it with v6. I cannot believe that feature is not in there!

(It's not, right?)

Live still has a ton of things this can not do (namely, Session view related things). Not to mention Live's great stability. Who knows if Logic will be stable.

But for workflow, tracking and SAMPLING, Live got pwnd

Seriously though - more than 90% of the world uses Windows OS

Logic 8 looks tempting to me, and a great price... until I factor in buying an over-priced mac computer to run it on. And THAT'S surely what this is all about
