Kick Ace! Firewire Sound Interface

I need to know what is the BEST overall interface in everyones opinion FOR OSX. I would like to spend less than 500$ but ultimately up to 1000$ if its really worth it.

I really only use soft synths and dont do a lot of a recording. I will be adding 1 hard synth into the mix soon, I just dont want to get something that sounds like ass just incase I do some gigging.

Please list your favorite (must work exceptional with osx) and a general price range!

Any will work if you don't do recording.

I have the Firebox and I don't do any recording. I found an awesome deal on it ($200).

It doesn't really matter I think. The Firebox has great sound quality. If get one that's MSRP $500+ then you'll get quality and low latency.

There are people with many releases, who just use the built-in sound.

I was looking at the Apogee Duet... anyone have any experience with this?

I dont think it is out yet.

Really want to know how the sound quality is.

sound quality will be very good, price will be really high, features are very limited.

Well is there a device with just as good sound quality around 299$? I am willing to stay around the 500$ range, but I want something with superior sound quality that is easily mobile.

I think the one thing I do not like is I look at buying a hard synth soon and as far as I can tell the duet does not have midi in or out. So it would not be possible to automate my hard synth params via logic / ableton.

The Firebox is a great interface, I just received mine the other day. The only real issue with Macbook Pro's is the damn firewire power up bug limitation. You need to have it plugged via either the adapter or a 12v battery pack, just for bootup though. Once it's sync'd, you can unplug and run bus-powered.

A little annoying for me, even though I don't bring it anywhere (except into my walk-in wardrobe for vocal takes, haha).
