well,

2 things about the new price:
a) Apple is a hardware company - sell software cheap, sell hardware.

b) some of the development cost of Logic (and quite some) is shared with that of Final Cut studio - now, why sell Logic cheap and not Final Cut? Well, Final Cut has no real competitive program in the Apple market - Logic has lots .....

And over the years it is not the initial cost that really weights, it is updates and service - apple gives you pro support - for quite some $ - they sell it. Ableton gives you free support ...... and so on.

I am not a business man - but - some here seem to enjoy their ignorance and prejudices.

I am a logic user - now, do I like that move? No, I do not really cry over the imaginary lost in value of Logic - Cubase still costs 800 an you cannot sell it used for more than 300 - so what?
But I think competition is key - and that product policy is hurting others (mainly the smaller ones ..... Digi, well, of course they do not like it, but they will make their money anyways)
And I think most new users will not spend the 500$ they just saved by buying something like Live or DP ....

Now wtf do I do with Tracktion!
Can anyone point me to a chart that thoroughly compares the features of LE with LP?
Taken from this Macworld article- http://www.macworld.com/news/2007/09/12/logic/index.php
According to Schoeben, there are only four features that separate Logic Pro from Logic Express. They are: surround sound, distributed audio, high-end control surface support and TDM support.

Just go to the Logic Pro spec list and ignore these four features. This means that you can actually get all of the Logic plug ins for $200 8O

I've heard that technically it's one laptop and one desktop, but there's no way for them to stop you installing on more.
