OVERALL VOLUME ADJUSTMENTS

I was working with a friend the other day who uses Sonar....as we were going along in the production.....when levels started getting too high....there was a cute lil feature that allowed him to reduce the volumes of each individual track (globally) by a certain db while keeping each track at the level u liked in the mix......is there a way to do this in Live.......i find myself creating something and then when I get to the end...I always have to go back and bring everything down, only to do it individually which means...i must go back and properly set it in the mix again before i run through mastering chain...... also....by doing it the manual way i've been doing it...i find that if i have any volume envelopes and i bring the volume down....the BTA overrides....so basically i have to clear the envelope and start over

not really, but there is a nice workaround:

insert an utility effect at channel one and put it for example to -5 db.
now copy it to all other tracks (holding down ctrl and drag and drop it)

another good tip for Ableton Live is to do all volume automation with utilitys in the tracks, so you can use the channelfaders easily for mixing.

faster workaround: turn down the master slider.

Since there's plenty of extra head/tailroom with Live's 32bit mixing abilities, you wont be sacrificing any dynamic range / detail the way you would on a 16bit or analog mixer.

But, yeah, still, a "select all on all tracks" command would be swell.

Would the utility plug on the master make the same result ? If you
drive the master too hot 3'rd party plugs will distort, since the master
fader is post plugs.

Just wondering if the utility plug could tame levels before they hit the
plugs on the master.
