Using the XE currency converter $499=£247.
what the **** is going on??
Shipping, Import Duty, VAT.

C'mon this is with all products not just with this, and it is a pretty fair exchange for once. Look at Ableton - EUR549 & USD599 !!!!
Ha ha, yeah I knew all this, it was just a general rant, and yes it is a much better conversion than Live

Uhm - Wouldn't there be import taxes on buying Live in the USA, but not in Europe as it is made here!?

Surely it should cost a LOT less than EUR549?

I guess that rules it out as a post-production tool, which suprises me because I bought the pre-release rumours/hype that it would be the Pro Tools killer - obviously not their aim after all.
That's where Soundtrack Pro comes in.

you can install all of the content any place you want to,, use the custom install option. There is a more detailed explanation on the sonikmatter site from Oscwilde,, check it out.
Aqua, I know what you're talking about, people kept telling me to do the custom install, but they don't realize that things like the Jam Packs HAVE to initially be installed on the internal drive. There's just no way to specify a different location during the install. However, Gamat at BigBlueLounge helped me with this advice (works great):
----------------------------
you can install your jam pack and find them in your os X HD
(in LP7 it s in your home library / audio / apple loops)
after that you can copy them in another HD (with all your other apple loops)
thrash the apple loops index files in the folder "apple loops index" (near the apple loops folder)
Open Logic and the loop browser
and drag and drop all your apple loops folders (all the defferent folders) on the loop browser
Logic will ask you if you want to import and copy all the loops in your systeme HD or just index them
choose "just index"
------------------------------

Yeah you need to install them on the internal drive first, and then copy them, but they work fine after doing the above. Don't even bother trying the older alias trick, dosen't work, Logic won't index the loops still. Loving it, good stuff in this release, it's clear the code underneath is cleaned up, everything operates much smoother and more predictably for me now.
That's great! thanks a bunch :D

BTW can i do this for other stuff as well? Like, garageband and exs samples? How would I do this? Sorry maybe i should just RTFM

after going back and looking at EVERYTHING you could possibly get with Logic 8 I'm kind of sold

truth be told I'm sort of uninspired with Live at the moment - new toys always give you a little kick of inspiration but...

with Logic you get more than just a new toy - you get HELLA sh*t for dirt as* cheap

I'll keep live to play tracks and what not but the Vaio's going on CL tonight

dang yo...curious as to what Live's answer will be - not that they have to, mind you

they can do the cycling 74 Live collab and charge as much as they want

Either way it IS Gordon's tax. He was chancellor throughout the whole of the Blair years, so let's not allow him to pass the buck, eh

I feel the same way and I think I am going to pick up logic 8 in the near future.

As an audio hobbyist I have always found the price of logic to be cost prohibitive, but at $499 it really does seem like an excelent deal. Not that I am going to stop using Ableton, but for me it will be nice to try something new.

Okay, I sought to clarify this with the longterm user who posted it, and got the following response:

Yes, but only the "FX" that are build into the sample editor. Which is barely nothing, just your usual trimming, reversing, normalizing and so.
There's no other FX (such as the internal Logic ones or AUs) available.

Oh btw, I'll let you folks in on another secret:
Logic 8 doesn't support long filenames! Yeah, you're reading correctly! 31 characters is still the limit for audio file names.
And, as if that wasn't bad enough already, here's another brilliant feature coming along with it: When you actually load an audiofile using more than 31 characters, Logic will happily truncate the filename without any further notice (in versions prior to LP7 you had at least a warning box and the file refused to load at all, so you could rename it manually in the Finder).
But ok, we should not wonder about that. I mean, long filenames are nothing common, only the very latest versions of whatever OS's finally got rid of the DOS limitations... *cough*.
