Question about Simpler

Post by JoeSchubert » Sun Sep 16, 2007 1:26 pm

I just started monkeying around with Simpler. So far so good, but I have an issue.
When I trigger the sample, it plays faster or slower depending on the note transmitted with it. What is the setting I use when I want to use simply the orignal sample tempo and key yet none of the transpose steps seem to match?
I'm recording the sample into an audio track then dragging it into Simpler, then working the sample with mappings assigned to my pad kontrol. It's a hoot working with some Trentemoller or PvD, but like I said, sometimes the samples aren't matching properly. This may be a simple fix, but the Simpler section of the manual didn't seem to touch on this.
Any help would rock...

Middle C

Post by JoeSchubert » Sun Sep 16, 2007 2:23 pm

Seems to do the trick on the others, but on one particular song, middle c is a hair slow even though properly warped. and c# is a hair too fast...is this just a glitch?

Once you warped your track. You need to (re-)render it for use in Simpler.
Simpler doesn't read warpmarkers nor does it stretch audio.

dont put your clip in simpler,

you can map a clip in session view to your midi keyboard

i'm about to test out everything that you told me...even not putting it in the sampler at all, but i'm not gonna lie, i like what sampler can do...but i'll see what i can do treating the clip like a simple sample outside of Simpler...thanks again...

cheers.

Now THAT made me LOL!

I completely agree with you, unless Senior Shubert is leaving something out. If all you want to do is play back a sample at the same pitch as it began, and you want to warp it, just play the clip from a keyboard, don't be fussin' around dropping the thing into simpler.

BUT, if one absolutely wants to, one can:
http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12122

- but this is generally more to do granular synthesis and such. If you want to just change the pitch of something without changing the tempo, then just do it as clips. Nothing gained from putting it inside a simpler - hence why it isn't described in the manual all that much ;-)
