apple remote converted to simple controller...

Post by piZMo » Mon Sep 17, 2007 1:48 pm

so having seen things like the wii remote and playstation pads and loads of other weird sh*t turned into a midi controller has anyone done/seen this with an apple remote? the idea just occurred to me as i was clearing out some stuff and came across my apple remote that i have never used.

would be useful if this could be used to control scene and clip navigation and playback? no? for instance you're playing a set using records and live, you're doing a section on turntables and want to bring in live, you wouldn't need to leave the turntables just use the apple remote to trigger your live session and cue it in?

what do you mac people think? useful? or not?

(and yes i realise that it would be a bit of a gimick and that its no substitue for a real midi controller but i was just pondering the idea as i haven't seen this yet)

anyone?

Check out Mira:

It doesn't send MIDI commands, but it does let you send out whatever key commands you need. Plenty to map it to Ableton Live commands - I tried it out briefly. I'm still not sure if I'll spend the $20 to register it, but it could be fun. Definitely cheaper than a TranzSport or other wireless transport controls!

if you use max/msp this might be helpful.

thanks bvl & nathan m. unfortunately i don't use max/msp (maybe i'll see if my mate will build a pluggo i can run), the mira option appears a possibility, worth a look at any rate.

edit: ok checked out twisted melon mira and can do what i was thinking about with this app. just simple navigation of clips/scenes and being able to launch and stop. cheers lads.
