Channel strip question...

Post by Benno » Mon Sep 17, 2007 10:08 pm

Ok, a stupid question but im looking at a channel strip for vocals and warming up samples etc before going into live. Im looking at a SPL channel 1 but this is a single line ie a mono unit - like most are. However, it has the option to add an AD/DA converter which incorporates a s/pdif in and out. Now im right in saying that s/pdif is a stereo signal so my question is this... it is a mono unit but would adding the s/pdif option enabe me process stereo signals. My guess is that it would but id like someone with better knowledge to confirm this before i splash out.

Hope someone can help!

uhhh rtfm on the thing's manual.

SPDIF can be stereo but that doesn't mean they're using it.

looking at the manual and as you say, it's a mono unit.

looks like it's 100% mono because it's made for vocals which, unless you're some kind of freak is always mono.

Ive read the manual a number of times and also trawled the net for answers. Posting on the forums is always a last resort for me. Im concerened that because the answer is so obvious i cant find it anywhere!

So what would happen then if i did run a stereo loop for example though the s/pdif? Im getting confused here. If the unit it a signal processor surely it wont matter? I know its mono but thats because you can only get a single line in using the analogue inputs.

If the spdif input is stereo then would it not just simple process what comes through its inputs?

feeding it stereo doesn't mean it has a stereo audio path through it. the manual doesn't mention stereo anywhere that I saw, I think you're hoping for too much. if it did stereo they'd advertise it. from the looks of the thing it's for processing mic inputs.
