MIDI clip: Can't drag loop brace or start to left of 1.1.1

- Create a new MIDI clip
- Take the pencil, draw a note on 1.1.1, select it.
- Move the note a bit to the left of 1.1.1 using the arrow keys.
- Now try to drag the left side of the loop or the start marker to the left, it won't work. You can do it wit a lot of fiddling which is even weirder, either it should work or not!

I seem to remember that you used to be able to go to the left of 1.1.1 like in audio clips but I uninstalled my older versions of Live so I can't quickly check this.

Bug?

Hi,

Dragging the loop brace/start marker before 1.1.1 is not possible, but you can set them manually by editing the value boxes so set them before 1.1.1.

I don't think that is consistent with how it works in audio clips, by the way.

Hi,

What do you mean? You can't drag the start marker of an audio clip before the beginning of the file right? Or that would sound quite amazing...

It's true that you can't drag the start marker of an audio clip before the beginning of the file, but you can drag it before the "1", if the "1" is set to be after the beginning of the file.
DJ Synchro is absolutely right in saying audio and MIDI handling here isn't consistent. And because there's no obvious reason for this it must be considered as a bug.

Hahaha! I know you can't drag it to the left of the file start but if the 1.1.1 is somewhere in the file you can drag the start, loop etcetera before it, not so in MIDI files, so it's inconsistent.

There are more incosistencies in the MIDI editor (and Live), you can assign the monitor button to a key but not the fold button. No big deal but inconsistent nevertheless.

Hi,

Audio and MIDI are quite different, isn't it? In a MIDI clip, you can off course set the start marker of the clip somewhere in the clip, and the loop before, or vice versa.

A "negative" time in a MIDI clip is a bit of a strang concept, so, we're trying to avoid to influence people to do so. But still, again, if you know what you're doing and you want it, you can access it via the value boxes for the start/loop start of the clip.

The fact that you can select a note and move it before the one with the arrow key is inconsistent, that's a true fact.
