Side chaining with VST instuments

Hello..

I watch this tutorial on side chaining in Live --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5eep4inXYs

I then downloaded this side chaining program for the trial run -->http://www.sonicstate.com/news/shownews.cfm?newsid=5055

My problem is I can't route my kick drum to any instrument in my library except for Reactor.

I would like to use Massive for my bass but when I press the output drop down menu for my kick it doesn't list the channel I have Massive (or any other VST) on???

Does anyone know what's going on?

i haven't watched the video because i'm too lazy, but if you want that ducking eric prydz style effect download this sidechain compressor.
its not the best but live does recognize it and its free.

drop it on your bass line and send you drum audio to that channel

Thank you. That side chainer was PC only but there was a link to another freeware plugin. I'll try it out.

I still don't know why Reactor is the only synth that registers in my output drop down?
Or how I could side chain a kick to Massive?

Any help would be greatly appreciated;)

You have to put the compressor on the same channel as Massive.

Then route the kick drum's audio output to that channel.

there is a plug called fab filter pro c ( http://www.fabfilter.com/products/pro-c.php ) which supports mac and works ok in live, but when i tried using the demo it hogged up a lot of cpu, but apparently that bug has been sorted although i aint tried personally.

if you making a 4/4 house or techno beat you can try this as a similar/alternative technique with a effect in live:

grab the Auto Pan (located under the Audio Effects in the browser) and drop it on to you bass line.........
then set these parameters to make the bass 'duck' every quarter bar:
Amount: 100%
Rate 1/4 (do this by changing the highlighted button below it from 'Hz' to the musical note thing)
Phase: 0.00
Shape: 0.00%
Change the 'Normal' to 'Invert' by clicking
Offset: 0.00
Leaving the wave shape as a curve probably sounds smoothest

thats it. that technique may be useful to you but it doesn't compensate for the real thing

Yes.. That's what I'm trying to do.
Massive doesn't show up in the output drop down for my kick drum track.

Only audio tracks and Reactor show up..

I'm using OtiumFX Compadre Beatpuncher since more than a year and
it gives a real nice sidechain effect

If you're sidechaining a kick drum to a VSTi, which is in a midi track, you can put the compressor on an audio track, and route the VST's output to the compressor, and the kick to the sidechain. So you'll have three tracks: the midi for the instrument, an audio for the kick, and an audio for the compressor to which the other two are routed. I don't know if this is how you have to do it, but it works.
