I recently had a Cwejman S1 (http://www.cwejman.net) in my studio for a week and am now eagerly saving money to buy it. What a beast! A very unique and quite flexible synth. Check out this demo song: http://www.cwejman.net/cwejman.net/cwejmachine.mp3
As far as bass synths go, a Pro-One is always on top of the list. Shitty built-quality, but awesome sound.
As 'the girl next door' already mentioned, Dave Smith is about to release a new version of the Pro-5. Not to be missed!

I agree the evolver made really nice bass sounds while I had it, but I wouldn't describe it as nasty. (But of course I'm comparing and everything is relative, so I mean not as nasty as the sidstation.) I guess I'm zeroing in on the word "nasty" because that's what the OP is asking for.Tarekith wrote:I have an Evolver desktop and think it makes awesome bass personally.

Yeah... nasty is the key operative here.
I definitely don't wanna go virtual analog. I have pretty much heard them all and while there are very nice emulations... there is something thin and missing from that type of synth IMHO.
SidStation seems like a fun option... I may get one of those as well...
I think the only info I did not mention is... This synth must be MIDI controllable. I went through dealing with CV with my old 303. Never again...

What is that? A .38?
38, 39, whatever it takes.

I used to own a Moog Rogue which is essentially a bass machine but very limited. I sold it for the Moog Voyager (patch memory!) which I use almost solely as a bass synth (mono out). Note, I may have bought the Lil Phatty if it was released back then but I'm still very very pleased with my Moog. It's a classic and will probably be mine forever (buried w/ me if possible).
I also have a Nord Lead 2X, which is great for tons of things - even bass, but it doesn't touch that analog fatness.
I can't comment on the Dave Smith stuff or otherwise as I haven't played it although I've heard good things from and good things about the Novation Bass Station (the original analog synth, not the VST).

Really? There's like a dozen different ways to create distortion on that thing, nasty is usually the first word I think of when I think of my Evolver. Weird how we all view gear different, no?icedsushi wrote:I agree the evolver made really nice bass sounds while I had it, but I wouldn't describe it as nasty. I have 4 bass weapons of choice;
MS20, Mono/Poly, Evolver and Nord Modular G1..
I prefer the MS20 because of its character and its thick sick filter..
the Nord comes second, loads of pressure, nasty edge..
Mono/Poly next, bit thinner, 24dB filter, very Korg also..
Evolver last.. don't really like it for bass.. dunno.. bit too 1-dimensional or something..
once had a Juno 60 as well which was very very well capable of thick basses..
don't underestimate that 1 ocs synth.. + sub osc..
loads of pressure..

I have an sh-101 also, but i record the sound from it as audio file and then i manipulate it in live...koneko wrote:+ 1 for sh-101
though it has no midi, so you'd need a cv-midi interface (60-80€)
sorry about the stupid question, but what is this cv-midi interface and how it works? where can i get one?
