Akai MPD-16 on sale for €100

Post by krank » Fri Sep 21, 2007 3:58 pm

I'm not in desperate need of a 16-pad midi controller, but it's on sale now. How does it compare to similar products?

Quality-wise, I've heard it doesn't compare to the MPD24 or padKONTROL. I have a padKONTROL and think it was well worth the price I paid.

Now if you are just looking for 16 trigger buttons it might be worth the cheaper price.

I use the MPD16. If you don't need the extra knobs and faders it's a great tool.

Forget it, almost unusable due to lack of editing and the Akai utility is crap, unless 2 banks are enough for you. New MPD, Korg, or Triggerfinger are worth paying more. Their prices will sink too (I paid 70€ for TF from Novamusik, brand new).

Thanks a lot for your advice. I thought 66% off from MRP sounded like a sweet deal, now I'll hold on to my cash.

Music stores are trying to give those things away and have been for some time. Even before the MPD 24 came out they were $100 anywhere online here in the States.

Ugly, clunky, no knobs but if you just want to bang out midi cc's on the pads it's cheaper than anyhting else I suppose.
