Logic 8 is amazing! Ableton Headquarters please....
Oh yes... first thing. In fact, most of my research about it comes from there.Bazaaa wrote:Weird. On my macbook it works without a glitch. did you try logicprohelp.com??
What's most strange about it, is that it's either chronic, or rare. And it's not necessarily horse-power... there are guys with quads and 6GB memory getting it, and people with Macbooks not getting it.
How much RAM do you have?
What speed is your hard drive?
If you have time, follow my repro steps, including the machine reboot (very important step), and let me know what happens. What audio loop and what midi loops doesn't really matter. 1 audio track, 1 Ultrabeat track, and 3 ES2 tracks.
Of course, depending on the drum kit and ES2 patches, the formula might vary slightly. Monday of next week, I'll be testing this on two Macbook Pros, one a 2.4 with 4GB memory, and the other a 2.33 with 3GB memory.
I've actually gotten quite confident that this scenario will cause an overload on both those as well, despite their horsepower and the minimal project size. But, I could easily be wrong.
To be honest, I just want to know what's doing it so I can come up with a repeatable workaround until/if Apple fixes it.
I'd like for it to be me, believe it or not, but the stock configuration of the machine is making me think it's just a bug that surfaces occasionally for some and rarely for others.
But, there MUST be some commonality, since its repeatable.

Post up a step by step then of what you're doing that causes this.inmazevo wrote:Oh yes... first thing. In fact, most of my research about it comes from there.Bazaaa wrote:Weird. On my macbook it works without a glitch. did you try logicprohelp.com??

Re: Works like a dream on my 1.25 GHz G4
jsb wrote:Zebastian - ya, there must be problems with your system. Logic 8 runs like a dream even on my old 1.25 GHz G4. The bundled software instruments (including great sampler), plug-ins, loops, etc are incredible...check them out in the tabs on this site:

I am very impressed by the value, depth, and ease-of-use....

I heard less-than-great-things about L8 on G4's. Glad to hear yours is dreamy!!
Is yours a laptop?
Are you running mostly audio or midi or both?
Any 3rd party plugins?
Are you new to Logic?
Would love to hear what your typical load is. There is hope for me yet!
Life is Good
I can 2nd the 'Core Audio Error' syndrome...
If I didnt know better I'd think Logic was a Windows App.
Core Audio Overload is not uncommon...But the simple work around is to just keep hitting 'OK, Ya whatever, Frak U - just play the fraking track, Jobs Robbed Wozniak' Button.
Play all the way thru your whole track, keep hittin the OK button. CAError will seldom reappear after that (Logic need to load in all the parts it needs for the Track, or some other bull... Jesus I love Live6 for the 'Fire It up and Rock' stability (just wish I had Logics instruments & fx).
Seriously... use the workaround and triple check your system

well Logic has stuff I would like to see in live:
-mainstage:
'cause with live the display is made with tiny fonts and we do not see any info about witch controllers controls what... designing a visual page expressely for live performance makes logic better than live for live events....
-comping options:
if you assemble audio from numerous takes (like keeping the best parts of a solo) you will do it all without any tools in ableton, just by hand....
and midi related editing that is totally absent from live.

Indeed, thos small fonts kill me too.WaveRider wrote: 'cause with live the display is made with tiny fonts and we do not see any info about witch controllers controls what... \

Indeed. I've tried all available options of audio buffer sizes, and buffer ranges (small, medium, large), and the new "pre-roll" option, and low latency mode.kent_sandvik wrote:Try to change the audio buffer sizes and see if you could trigger it more often, or if it goes away if you increase the buffer size. Also, what FW audio device are you using, and what drivers? --Kent
I'm on my way to the store right now. More RAM... faster hard drive.
No matter anymore, I've come to the conclusion that I'll have to play 2 or 3 projects, 2 or 3 times each, every time I reboot, and then the problem stops happening until I reboot the machine again. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Maybe the RAM and the faster hard drive will lower that 20 minutes to 10. We'll see, but at least it turns out to go away after that each time. Annoying, but workable.
I DO, believe it or not, like Logic Pro 8 quite a bit, though my first week with it was pure rage.
But, I won't ever use it for live performance until this is fixed. Live is, and will continue to be, IT for me in that regard. In fact, the past week with LP8 has solidified my purchase of Live 6 later today.
I'll post more detailed step-by-step instructions than I did on page one of this thread, complete with a downloadable project, in case anyone wants to investigate further, or see if they can repro it as well.
Take care all,

Could you try this:
- create a project with 1 audio loop track starting at measure 1 repeating 4 bars
- add a midi loop for Ultrabeat on measure 5 and program a simple rhythm which repeats 4 bars
- add a midi loop for ES2 on measure 9 with 4 notes which repeats 4 bars
- add a midi loop for ES2 on measure 13 with 4 notes which repeats 4 bars
- add a midi loop for ES2 on measure 17 with 4 notes which repeats 4 bars
- no effects
Try playing. Then it works.
Reboot the machine.
Open Logic Pro 8 and hit play (before doing anything else).
Does it work?

I have experienced this too, I have a MBP 2gb RAM 2.16ghz + 7200rpm drive.
Glad it's not just me then.
