LIve 6x: MOTU Ultralite 2 Wierd issues

Post by Josh Von » Sun Sep 23, 2007 6:04 am

I have a MOTU Ultralite with two odd issues:

1: Audio glitch dropout Every Hour

When I boot up either my desktop or laptop (both) there is a quick < 1 second
dropout of the audio with a digital glitch sound as the MOTU is detected by WinXP

Here is the strange part:

- This dropout happens every hour at exactly the same time.
- It only happens with Live 6, no other applications
- It is recordable: ie if you are recording external ins, it shows up in the clip
- MOTU has never heard of it ( I called them)

Question:

What is happening every hour at the same time (it varies) in Live's relationship with the audio drivers / interface? Is something timed?

2: Drivers lose sync, dropped from Live, needs reboot / restart of MOTU to clear it up. This only happens on the laptop (PC Audiolabs AMD 64x 2 gigs of RAM)

Totally random, playing for long periods of time --- audio goes off, green meters suddenly drop in the Session View --- complete lockup of L6 interface

I usually have to kill Live process in Taskman -- then sometimes hard reboot my laptop with the power switch -- only way -- then completely turn off the MOTU and turn it back on before i boot in order for it to work

Strange espeically the first one and especially because everyone seems to like the MOTU with hardly any problems

That is so odd, never heard of that. You don't have like any background update checks enabled? Have you tried killing the wi fi on your laptop and seeing if it happens? Updated to the newest firmware for the motu? Thought about returning it for another one?

As far as I can tell so far, no background updates. If there were it would also have to be something that was installed on both machines ...

Wi-fi is not hooked up on either (disabled on laptop). Firmware is latest.

Ive had it for over 5 months and the reciept is somewhere but at this point returning it might not be so easy.

I just ordered an Indigo DJ because I have gigs coming up and I cant use
this for live performance, its fine for the studio for most things but completley useless for playing out (obviously)

Hi,

I seem to have the same problem (with Vista) while booting up.
I then randomly (sometimes) hear some clicks in audio (haven't been able to test if it was each hour, as Josh Von managed to do) with CPU being around 20% only... (laptop is optimized to be a DAW I.E. windows update disabled, no anti-virus etc.)

Has anyone here have the same problem with PC laptop + Motu + Live 6?

Josh Von, have you been able to sort out the problem?

Thanks.
