You can use every grid from 1/384 Note to ... 512 Bars, or no grid at all
or tripplets... 16th notes is only the dafault setting for the pattern editor.

Grid resolution

Post by cruelc » Wed Jul 14, 2004 3:47 pm

I've just begun playing with the midi in Live 4 beta, and had problems reducing the grid below 1/8th notes using ctrl/1 etc after I'd recorded some midi notes from the computer keyboard in the arrangement window.

I then created a midi clip and the lowest grid resolution I could get was 1/16th (ie I couldn't get down to 1/32nd or below).

This isn't intended to be a bug report or complaint, since I've only just started playing-but if anyone knows what I'm doing wrong from their own experience I'd be grateful for your widom.

Best Regards

maybe you should post it in the beta area anyway as it could be a bug and they'll sort it out faster over there.

you have to be zoomed in far enough for the grid lines to show

i think it's not very convenient that you have to zoom to set the grid to smaller settings. for example, if you just want to quantize a bunch of notes to 1/32s, you have to zoom just so that you can quantize with that setting.

I'm with zambal--it would be great to have some sort of drop-down box where you could select your grid line increments reguardless of zoom. Granted, this might be a problem with a three minute clip and 1/64th resolution, but maybe it would be nicer to leave it up to the user to determine the grid resolution to zoom ratio, rather than having to zoom way in on a small portion of the clip to get 32nd's.

I agree that having to zoom in to get smaller divisions is inconvenient and very confusing at first. I would also love the ability to change the length of the notes while drawing. So you could stay in the 16th note grid but stretch notes out to 1/4 notes without changing the grid divisions. Is this possible already and I'm just missing a key command or something?
