RECORDING AUDIO (COMPLETE SONG)

Hello All,
Hope this doesn't seem like a Stupid Question but can I Record Audio into Live (3-5 minutes) more or less, I've tried to find out through the Owners Manual but was Unsuccessful (If you know what page that may help). First I'm farely new to Live I use to Tour and Make music Daily I stopped and Focused more on Family and my other Job (The Mortgage Business and I'm sure we all know what's happening there) so I really only get 1 maybe 2 days to mess with Live (and really like it) I use to use Logic. Live works really well with my Production Style (Midi w/ External Devices). So what I'm looking to do is Record all my tracks in Live (3-5 minuts) (EQ,FE,Etc) then Render and opn in Protools (since all the Artist I work with have Protools). Can this be Accomplished. Thanks in Advance

Hi,

Yes, you can record as long as the computer allows it, in Live. The file size limit is 2 Go, which is well over an hour. So, you can record acoustic music, using your instruments, and record over as to build your tracks. And do much more of course.

what version of live u got? i think live 6 added the Render All tracks option.

I have Live 6.0.9 and yes it does have Render All Tracks, but I want to Record my Entire song into Live before I Render. I'm more Concerned with are there any Settings that I need to Be Aware of to Record my Entire Song Prior to Rendering. Thanks

turn warp mode off, I suppose. Unless you need to fix your timing.

Seems to me that you could have answered your own question by hitting the record button and just trying it for yourself.

Or is there something you didn't mention? Like, you need to record 12 tracks at once?

Thanks I've done that but it Records in a 4 Bar Loop (Even with Loop Turned Off) I Just want to Record the Entire Song, EQ,FX,Etc. then Render and Open the Track in Protools. Warp is Turned Off also. Thanks Laird.

1. Go to arrangement view. (click the triple-barred = sign on the right)
2. arm a track
3. *******make sure loop mode is turned off*******
4. hit record, and go

You've accidentally, I guess, hit the loop mode and don't know it.

Its a little circular pair of arrows in the upper transport area.

Why did you buy Live, if you want to use Pro Tools?

Thanks once again. I bought Live because I'm Old School Mixed with New School meaning:

1)SP12 (Drums)
2) Reason 3.0 (Sound Module)
3)Oberhiem Matrix 1000 (Excellent Sound Module)
4) Mackie 1620 w/Firewire

All my Tracks are Created aound th SP12; when I hit Start on the SP I want everything else to Start (Protools Can't Do that). I use 8 outs from the SP, the Oberheim has 1 Mono out and I have 7 Inputs left on the Mackie. You can't use those Outs/Ins with Protools (Only Protools Hardware). So since I have PC Knowledge I built the Fastest PC (3 Years ago) and have Yet to see one Faster. So since Logic is out of the question, that's where Live! steps in, and since ALL the Artist I work with use Protools.... It works out Perfect.

Monitors
1) With Live! Reason 3.0 I use Samson Reslov
2) Protools I use KRK v8's

And to top it Off

SSL Duende

I assume you are in the Arrangement view, and not session view, but please tell us.

Also, 3 year-old PC... are you using Live 5 or Live 4? Most people here, myself included, will assume you are asking about Live 6.

Anyhow:

1. double check to make sure LOOP MODE is indeed off.
2. double-read the manual under punch-in and punch-out markers.

If you are only able to record 4 bars of audio at a time, you are in punch-in/punch out mode.

If your audio is looping, and looks like it is recording over itself: it isn't. Just drag the right clip brace further to the right, and you'll uncover all that "overdubbed" audio. Hint: you may only see 4 bars in the arrangement view, but down below in the clip window you will see all of your recorded audio, in an unbroken linear format. Most of it will be greyed out.

Yes I'm talking about Live!6. My computer is a Pentium 4 Dual Processor, 450 Gigs of Hard Dive space 4Gigs of Ram; belive me it's Fast. I'm usually in Arrangement View maybe I should make a habit of Tabbing the two.

Maybe I'm missing something because I couldn't find how to just Record My Entire Track anywhere in the Manual and like I told Amaury I sleep with the Manual (my Wife may think I'm crazy but I want the answer) and I'm sure it's something simple but sometimes that can stump us. I don't know if you Remeber the program EZ Visions (Mac Classic) I had all my Equipment Setup the Same Way I do with Live! 6 and one day it just stop working, so I took it to School ( Los Angeles Recording Workshop) with me along with my Roland W30 (which I still have and use as a Controller) and had my Instructor (Steve) looked at it and turns out "Keyboard Sync" was unchecked. Needless to Say I felt smaller than a Ant. So I'm sure it's something simple. Thanks Laird.
