Thanks a lot for the info dude! This clears up a lot of thoughts I had.GUY SMILEY wrote:...One final thing is that I keep 'losing' the modulation wheel.. anyone else have this problem ? please help !!
You mean with losing that it stops responding after a while? Mine works fine it seems.
And could you perhaps tell me if your solo buttons are automapped correcly (they supposed to be mapped to the row above the transport controls) in the Ableton template? Because mine done seem to work while the activa/deactivate button below the (working) volume sliders seem to work.
And isn't it possible to edit the ableton template too like this:
So that you can also use the right set of controls in VST's?
Thx & greets!
looks like this))
i didn't use the software editor like you did - i just poked the hardware with my nasty fingers and couldnt do it)))
however, your screenshot tells me that the buttons on the "metallic" part are not up for software editing either, so i guess it cant be done. oh well...
whoops was for smthn else)))
btw, the buttons that you have for solo I have for arming the track. pretty useful, bearing in mind that if you double-hit an arm button - the corresponding track gets SELECTED. and whats especially tasty - the first device on the track gets AUTOMAPPED in the plug-in area. I find that extremely useful in conjunction with Racks (read 8 custom knobs) and in a live situation (i mean performance). your mouse will be longing for your touch

Thats a great idea.peeddrroo wrote:i have one
don't use it for automapping so far, but as a regular midi controler.
one trick i have is to use some buttons as "shift" keys.
this way, i can have the same knob control different parameters (for instance the cutoff of different synths or tracks), depending if it is turned while a button is pressed.
the idea is to temporarily change template. for instance, i have 3 templates for my live gig. a main one, and 2 other that i access less.
i found 2 methods to do it:
- the easy one: i map the transport buttons (that's the ones i use as shift keys, sending midi notes) to some midi clips that send program changes to the zeroSL.
- the other one: on a midi track with monitoring set to In, i set the transport buttons to send program changes corresponding to the templae numbers.
if this isn't clear or want more details feel free to ask.
I think you can assign buttons to Template numbers.
So one button could switch between templates = shift.
I am using it as a custom controller.
Template 38 is cool for plugs but when i try 40 = it dont work.
And when i try to switch from 38-40... well you know.

My tips are...
I use the drumpads/buttons to select effect quantise rates (sync rate).
The step value of the cc# i use is 6 to step through on 1 button.
To assign the touchpad I had to assign its controllers to knobs first to set them
because the pad was weird for assigning but works fine.
You can set where the touchpad resets to in the global settings.
If 1 parameter is back to front you can reverse its value.
This works well with beat repeat for buzz rolls etc.
You can link 2 templates together and then use the buttons on the left as scroll buttons.

noobish question
Hi guys! Just bought myself a Remote zero SL. Quite new to the qhole digital music making buisness, and therefore qualify as a noob.
My problem (and i think i've seen post w other ppl having the same problem, no solution though) is that I have to keep dumping the remote sl in live! It never grays out, and often teh remote isnt responding until i Dump yet another time....
I've had this controller for less than a week, and cant seem to shake this problem. It works perfectly w Reason, and ofc I've dl'd and installed the latest drivers etc... AND the midi setup is straigth outta the automap manual for live, so whats wrong here?
And also, I can't figure out how to control Reason as a rewire slave in Live...
Sry for being a noob, but I can't figure this out on my own.

Re: noobish question
I also lost the link between ableton and my remote sl25 a lot in the beginnen while trying things. But I guess it was because I changed a lot of settings to see the results.Stallo wrote:Hi guys! You still have the problem?
Also it seems that automapping always uses template 40 when using ableton, instead of the "live-1" and "live-2" templates which are on template slots 33 and 34 (or something near that). I don't get it how I can use these templates...if I select them manually they don't seem to change values in albeton although the display of the remote adjusts the values correctly.

Hi,
I have just purchased a Zero SL, and am thoroughly enjoying it. Two things are bugging me though, and I was hoping some of you might be able to help.
Firstly, Ableton doesn't seem to recognise the row of buttons above the row of potentiometers. I've tried to map these to various functions, but it doesn't seem to pick them up. I can map all of the other controls no problem.
Secondly, is there anyway that you can scroll through the devices for editing, without touching the mouse, whilst still in Automap mode?
Any help anyone could provide would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Tommy

scrolling through devices - you can't
not trying to be a dick here, my $0.02 on the SL and this forum...
- there are a dozen other SL threads on the forum, use google to search the site for them.
- despite this thread's title it doesn't have much info because the topic's been beaten to death and explaining the same thing over and over gets old because the explanation is rarely short and simple. so, if you don't get much more help, that's why.
- look for old posts by RJ Dubya, he's spent time explaining the device in more detail than anyone.
edit - damn, the this site's search worked for once!!

Speed Dial
Too bad the Remote SL doesn't have a speed dial know life the compact version. Think it can be a very useful feature.
