each Chain in a rack assigned its own note/key ?
just playing around with a new project where i've set up an instrument rack with 16 chains, and i'd like to be able to flip between chains using my padKontrol's 16 pads - pad one selects chain one, etc. - but Live doesn't seem to allow midi learn for individual chains, only the chain select ruler. is there a workaround for this? can't figure it out as my hungover brain won't work... *sniff*

Are you sending notes or CCs from the pK?
For notes…
1. Inside the rack, instead of clicking Chain, click on Key. That will let you put each chain on specific note. By default, each chain will span the entire key range. You just need to resize those (by dragging) so each one takes up just a single note that corresponds to the notes your pK is sending.
2. It actually is possible with the Chain Select Ruler too as long as your pads are set up chromatically. When mapping it, hold down your first pad and hit your 16th pad. In the MIDI mapping browser, scale the range of the control. If you had 16 chains, you’d set the Min to 0, Max to 15.
In the Chain Select Editor, put each chain on a specific position…first one on 0-0, second one on 1-1, etc up to 15-15. Now each of your 16 pads will trigger each of the corresponding 16 chains.
For CCs…
Assign the same CC to all your pads and give each a different value…1st would be 0, 2nd would be 1, 3rd would be 2, etc. Do that in Settings mode by pressing Velocity. Assign the Chain Select Ruler to the same CC and set up the range and chain positions as noted in #2.

you sir, are awesome.
i had no idea that midi learn worked with key ranges
my omnichord recreation (the omniKONTROL) now lives and breathes!
i'll post it in the 'roll your own racks' section when it's finished. it's a lot of fun..

That sounds awesome. I have a real omnichord 200m but would really be into using your recreation as well. I was thinking of doing something like this but don't have the familiarity with racks yet to do it. Looking forward to it!garyboozy wrote:you sir, are awesome.

ah sweet! yea i was bidding on a 200m a few weeks back when it went wayyyy over my budget. those midi models go for silly sums now. anyway i got to thinkin maybe i could recreate one using the padkontrol, with the pads as chord triggers and the x-y controller as the strum plate. amazingly it works
will post tomorrow when its tweaked a bit more

on a mac here, so am using MidiPipe to convert the x-y's cc data to note-on. if you're on pc, i'm sure its just as simple to use Bome or something. anyhoo instructions are included in the .zip
let me know what u think!

so now after 10 minutes of setting up some racks and some translators in bomes midi translator, ive got a preset bank added to my master FX track for my current livesetup, triggered by my qwerty keyboard. god knows how long ive been trying to figure this out.
thank you thank you. alot.
