I'm afraid the comments about using port 1 are incorrect. Page 19 of the Universal Automap manual (below) clearly spells out the correct preferences for using the SL in Live. Port TWO carries the Automap information, Port 1 is the Keyboard/manual port and Port 3 does something else (I believe that's where the SL receives data from the Live, but I can't find that info right now). I was a bit frustrated with my SL at first, but I did get it up and running and it works fine.

thorough post.
it's been said in this thread that the manual says port 2 and some people are using port 1.
I just reinstalled my SL drivers earlier tonight and reset the SL's interface in Live. it works on Port 1 in the control surfaces menu. I have full control with the faders and automapped knobs. the key and stuff works when I set the midi input boxes.
it's kind of an odd device, usually works, odd to wrangle at times but I don't sense that it's quirky enough that people return/sell them.

thats what i did i set the control surface port1 and the knobs are working again
but how did u get the keys and the faders work?
this is what mine is set to
control surface input output
remote SL port1 port1 <------------------ port 1 in both places
takeover mode - pickup <--- great feature btw
MIDI PORTS track sync remote
INPUT
port1 on off on <----------- on on on, but on off on is ok, learn to sync later if you want
port2 on off on <---- off off off, never set them when I did the reinstall
port3 off off off <------- off off off, never set them when I did the reinstall
OUTPUT
port1 on on off <--------- all three of these are off, I never set them when I did the reinstall
port2 off off off
port3 off off off
with that setup I can mouse on an automapped Impulse and have it update the SL's display. btw you have to click on a device so the blue hand lights up to get it to automap.
YMMV hang in there, these are the settings you need to play with at least. did you know that when you change things in the preferences box you can keep the window up as you try different settings? changes take place immediately. that might help you set this up faster.

im going to return it to the store i think theres something wrong with it
the keys dont even work as well i havnt got any sound yet.
this is not the first midi control i have, i have ozone, trigger finger, bcr, bcf, and all of them only took me 15min to figure it out how to control them with ableton.
