you can have midi clips with different time signatures but the global time signature remains the same all along the track. That's definitely a feature that would be needed to be automated in the mixer you're right. Maybe in the next version ?

But how does it work? If you have a clip that's one bar in 3/4 and have the master set to 4/4, will the clip play back over one bar or over three beats?

Meh. I was hoping it'd be stretched over a full bar of 4/4 for polyrhythmic stuff...

if a 3/4 clip over 4/4 global is assigned to three beats, then for polyrythm just loop 4 of those 3/4 clips over 3 4/4 clips. that would produce a polyrythmic phrase over 12 beats.

Yeah, but not the kind of polyrhythm I want - I suppose what I'm looking for is an easier way to do tuplets :)

how about warping the four down to three then?
-but i do get what you're at.
the lack of flexibility as far a time signatures go has alaways been a huge hurdle yet to be fully addressed by the software companies. you have to work a bit between the lines sometimes to make it happen.
it would be nice to be able to sequence signature changes...
to the wishlist!
cheers

signature change

Post by podprod » Wed Jul 07, 2004 7:27 pm

wow..sorry to hear thats not included..if going to the trouble of having a midi sequencer would make sense to allow for not only SMF (standard midi file) import/export protocol which also includes transfering of files from any format and platform..SMF should read time signature and tempo change as well as key in spite of the program that created it.
So basically if you need to use midi with these features must rewire midi with live as in ver 3..Do hope that this might be included soon as to eliminate the use of DP/Logic simply to get the time signature grid to wotk musically..
