Logic Express Questions
Hi Guys,
I really love ableton alot and do enjoy using it sometimes. I come from a background of Cubase SX and have primarily used it sicne I started composing music, but for the past year i've been using ableton. I decided to switch over to mac recently and have been using ableton on it and have no complaints at all compared to using it on the pc. I do not have a legit version of SX so that is no longer an option for a DAW for me. With the new competitive pricing of Logic 8 I am debating if I would like to buy this and give it a try (i've never used any of the logic versions before, but if the new workflow is more like SX or the older cubase versions I would like the feel of this better than ableton for example). If they had a trial version of Logic Express 8 it would answer alot of these questions.... but I cant find one so I am asking for other's input.
Now that I have some of the background out of the way I have a few questions.
First. Is it possibe to setup Logic Express 8 as a "master" so to say and then ableton live as a "slave"... kind of like how you can rewire reason with cubase? I dont know if you can do this with pro either, but I really need to know if you can do it with EXPRESS because that would be a huge determining factor for me.
Second. Is the sound quality of Logic Express comparible to Logic Studio and how does this compare to other DAW's (i dont want to buy a cheap piece of shit)
Third. Are the out of box Synths and FX any good in Logic Express 8? I really dont take a liking to some of ableton's out of the box fx and synths, (they are not bad but just not what I prefer)
I have been researching alot of this, but really question number 1 and 2 are the ones that I cant find any information on.
Thanks in advance for the feedback.

ask your friends on the internet.. maybe someone can "lend" you a copy ... ive heard that since there are no more dongles, the program is alot more, uh, flexible if you catch my drift. try before buy.
to more specifically answer your questions - the instruments are good, but you wont be able to rewire them into ableton, as far as i know.

Some people might tell you to download a torrent and if you like it, buy it. They would tell you there is absolutely no harm in this just so long as you treat it as an "extended" demo and buy the software or remove it from your computer once you've made up your mind.
Others would say that is totally wrong.
As for me, I prefer not to state my opinion on the matter.

Read that to answer any Express questions you might have. All of the instruments that come with Pro come with Express, with the exception of 5.1 versions of those plugins. You can head over to www.logicprohelp.com and read up, too. Logic Express is now very, very much similar to Pro with the exception of a handful of more advanced features. These, too, can be read about at said forum. Yes, Live can be slaved to Logic. Haven't yet done it myself, but I'm going to make the assumption it isn't very hard. Put on your exploring shoes and head off into the crazy world of the internets googling rewiring Live to Logic. You will find stuff, grasshopper.

i've been thinking of picking up logic 8 (full version) myself but i just can't get over the fact that i can't run logic as a slave and live as the master (which pretty much cancels out session view). so that pretty much shits all over that idea.
plus i'm not a fan of garageband. it doesn't feel comfortable and it doesn't get along with my midi/fw devices (unlike live which works awesome with all my gear). hopefully thats not any indication of how logic is but then again they're both apple software so i can't say for sure. as far as trying before you buy, good luck! hope that works out for you. torrents sites are getting shutdown on the regular.
