Sonar offers a way to organize your plugins so they are alot neater, but in Live they are just all over, any way to do this?

the Live browser just reflects the disk folder where you keep your vsts. if you create sub folders like 'instruments" and "effects" and move the vst files into them you will see the same structure in Live.

mine is like:

vst/instruments/subtractive
vst/instruments/sample based
vst/instruments/emulation
vst/instruments/oddball
vst/fx/modulation
vst/fx/distortion
vst/fx/delay
etc.

the only tricky aspect is keeping the sound banks visible. sometimes they need to be relative to the subfolder othertimes the vst can be configured to use a fixed location.

this all based on my experience on Windows
"That very perceptive of you Mr Stapleton, and rather unexpected... in a G Major"

I did 3 subfolders and I manage to find everything realy fast.

\Program Files\Steinberg\vstplugins\Effects
\Program Files\Steinberg\vstplugins\Mastering
\Program Files\Steinberg\vstplugins\Instuments

This is one of the things that annoys me as i have some vsts that sit in different locations. It would have been nice to be able to scan a group of folders rather than just the one for vsts.

Well I organized them a bit better, its still not nearly as nice as say Sonar's setup, but it works, however I will tell you the first couple of times it scanned the VST folders again it had some crashes. After 2 or 3 times it is fine now, and it can find them all. I do despise that many times when Ableton crashes it still stays in the process list and you can't end it, only way around is restarting.

I use Numbers in the begining of folder names
...so I can control the order they appear...

vstplugins\1Instruments
vstplugins\1Instruments\1Synths
vstplugins\1Instruments\2Samplers
vstplugins\1Instruments\3Drums
vstplugins\2AudioFx
vstplugins\2AudioFx\1Dynamics
vstplugins\2AudioFx\2Delay
vstplugins\2AudioFx\3Filter
vstplugins\2AudioFx\4Reverb
vstplugins\3Tools
vstplugins\3Tools\1FFT
vstplugins\3Tools\2Stereo
vstplugins\3Tools\3Db
vstplugins\4Midi Tools
vstplugins\4Midi Tools\1Arps
vstplugins\4Midi Tools\2Gates
vstplugins\4Midi Tools\3filters

etc. etc. etc....you get the point
