Battery 3 Users: Stable In Live?

Post by thehuman » Sun Aug 19, 2007 12:36 pm

I'm just curious. I have heard a lot of bad things and a lot good things about Battery 3. Everyone on the NI forum seems to be pissed, but I guess that's what a forum is for. My question:

How is Battery running for any of you (specifically version 3)? I have a good deal on a new copy, and really thinking about getting it, as long as it is not as bad as its NI support forum would make it seem. I really appreciate any insights. As always, thanks in advance.

I love it..Works great for me inside Live (osx 10.4.8, G5, Live 6)...however, there are a lot of different options for workflow..and depending on how you want to use it your experience may differ from others. try out the demo, and (if you haven't already) read thru the NI forums for Battery to see if any of the current issues people tend to have with it that might cause you concern.

apparently Live 5 is not supported by NI for Battery 3
Leave it to the pros ;)

It's very stable for me but... a lot of people do seem to have problems. As already said, try the demo and check it out for yourself.

Demo it is... It seems to me that you guys are right, though. Even if the program sucks, it's worth the $90 for the sample library.

Damn... This is REALLY a huge improvement over over version 2.

The articulation feature particularly tickles my fancy, but the humanization is also incredibly excellent. I am all over this. Seems sturdy enough for me. The only bug I encountered is the one mention on the NI forum about no numeric data entry in the cells, but hey... I can turn knobs. Thanks for the input, everyone.

this might be a good place to list any of the infamous bugs that are going around that would effect anyones use with in Live. I know those that are on the fence would like to know from an experienced users perspectives just what all the bugs are that are pissing folks off so much, at least I would.

I was perusing the NI forums for a few minutes, and these are the common complaints I saw:

1.) Inability to use number keys to enter values in cells. (This is the only bug I experienced, and it's really not that big a deal. Just turn the knob with your mouse.)

2.) Crashing when trying to open the browser (the one inside Battery). When I was messing around with it earlier, I was using the browser all over the place, and it never gave me a problem.

3.) General instability. Seems to be hit or miss. Some people are fine.

I have a problem with battery 3 in the latest version of live 6.0.10 running on Macbook osx.

After I have saved a tune with a battery instance in it I am unable to reload the tune. The Ableton GUI freezes, I can click the play button and the tune will play, but I am unable to make any changes as the gui doesnt update.

So this makes battery 3 unusable for me at least...

I havent had time to look into the cause of this yet..

I had to sell Battery 3 myself, way too many bugs for me, regardless of the DAW it was used in. I can see where some people might not run into them, but for what I was trying to do, I'd see something almsot every day. Shame, as it's an awesome plug in and if NI just fixed the damn problems already, I'd have loved to keep using it. Great sound library too.

Unfortunately these cannot be automated/midi controlled. You can only set them as a static value or change one of these via mouse at a time while playing.

I never had problems with running Battery 3 in Live on an Intel Mac.

I only did some tests with Live and Battery 3 yet, nothing big. So far it's perfectly stable. Batter 3 features a bug that I have encountered on all Kontakt based plug however (Acoustik Piano and Kontakt itself). At high sample-rates (88/96 kHz) the Reverb engine is alot more dry than at lower sample-rates (44/48 kHz). But most people will stick to lower sample-rates anyway when using Live.
