check wikipedia, it's an updated midi type interface that also handles audio, runs inside the computer or over a network. might be/could be the great thing about the C74 connection.

Ableton’s engineers are hard
at work developing code that will allow our software to predict the future, but we don’t
anticipate having this available until at least the next major release.

Live API is all about Python, part of Live is based on Python, LiveAPI links in with that. it's not OSC. imagine midi but it also carries audio and is built into a lot of other apps. kinda like midi yoke or IAC you can share data between apps.

with ver 5 of max/msp coming out, it's a HUGE overhaul of the program, I'm not surprised L7 doesn't have OSC. I would be that it puts the project out even further.

I'm incredibly anxious for this too, trust me. patience, understanding, and if nothing else C74 is here in SF, Ableton is in Berlin. we can coordinate a raid on both offices, chain them into both locations until they give us what WE WANT!! we outnumber them.

It's about 2 years that Open Sound Control has been asked as a feature in this forum. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be a priority. I will continue to put it in my wishlist, until it will be included into Live.
Maybe the partnership with Cycling '74 will change the situation...

Really? I thought that Python was an easy way to access Live's API. What part of Live is based on Python?

The LiveAPI has a LiveOSC object. Not sure of how well it functions but, I did find that it supports OSC.

The custom midi bits for setting up control surfaces, from what I gather.
