Post by jmatt » Sat Jul 17, 2004 11:20 am

Hi, I just cant get the live 4 beta 7+ to work with any Audio Units(FX + Instr) It crashes the app every time!!!

Ive posted here as its not a bug, it seems to be working for everybody else. so any suggestions what im doing wrong?

Im using an ibook 700Hz with 256 memory and OSX2.8
My AU's work fine in DP4 and Im keeping the component folders in
HD>library>audio>plug-ins>components.

Thanks for your help

Jmatt, list some of the au's you are trying to use. I dont know about some of the earlier Ibook issues but i'll try to help you sort it out... is your DP4 on that computer as well ?

i've had a similar problem, iMac G3/400 Mhz running 10.2.8 off a 7200 RPM Firewire Drive (Live 4b8). every AU i have attempted to load crashes Live 4b but it's not that big a deal because the VST side of things has been flawless. aside from the AU issue, the beta has been great

Hi, Loophead, Im running DP4 on the same computer thats why its puzzling me. Im running Reaktor Session, MDA's free AU's, 3 digital fishphones-blockfish,floorfish,spitfish.Sound consulting's Bad Cable and I also seem to have a whole bunch of Apple plug-ins (presumably built into OSX, because I cannot locate the component folders).
All are loaded and work fine in DP4, is it possible DP4's AU update patch has done something? Ive only just thought of this...maybe I will uninstall to see.

I agree with blakbeltjonez that I can live without AU's as the Beta is amazing and working fine in all over areas. AU's just seem such a pain compared to simple old VST's.

Boy I dont know off hand what could be doing that. I have the 'fishphones' and they work fine. Do you have anything like hijack etc on your system ?

An empty session, drag in blockfish and you crash ? I would send a crash log to them.

Does anyone here know of any issue about the older version of OS X you are on ?

blakbeltjonez, how much memory is on your computer ? After a little sniffing around my thoughts are that this may be ram related.

Hi, Yeah Ive got Audio Hijack...can that cause problems? and it does crash an empty set.

Im starting to suspect its ram too. Made a cool tune (for me anyway) tonight but it crashed and the file (4mb) just wont load again. I reckon it cant hold all the info in the memory and judging as your using 1gb ram....

I do not know enough but during beta testing several folks who had hijack were getting some strange stuff happening. Not to start a flame but the 'ape' is a (sort) of a hack into OS X at avery deep level. I know of two freinds who had very bad crashes when trying to update there OS because that 'ape' was there. They had too remove him to do a proper OS update. One lost data.

I would say as an experiment. Delete hijack (and that 'ape' ) and see what (if anything) happens. I think its worth a shot. Please et me know the outcome if you decide to try this....

Also I'm sure the amount of ram is an issue not sure how much. I'm surprised you got dp4 to open. I have one gig and I feel I dont have enough !

this really should have been in the beta section, but all I know is that the Soundshuttle AU works great for me (except only in the midi channel) and the VST never worked in Live 3!
