I'm liking the fold out channels in the drum rack, can you do that with any channel in the mixer?

Any improvements/alterations to the way Live deals with groove and swing?

Some nice improvements in there, finally, sidechaining!!

any instrument rack folds out into an "in-line mixer", all the sub racks are represented by further fold outs. You can drag the inline channels about to re-structure them -like a kind of heirachic view of the rack.

there aren;t really any improvements to swing and groove

sidechaining has some freak benefits - you can route in a modular way by putting the side-chainable devices into 'monitor' mode and thereby taking the selected 'other' audio and bringing it into the rack.
even if that source is itself !

that means you now can route a rack back into itself!
;)

make your own looper for example :D
Thanx Angsrom, that all sounds really interesting. I was wondering that as it's now possible to slice audio and create rex files, does that mean that the resulting midi file that gets created also retains the original groove of the sliced file? That's the usual way a slicer works, that could be pretty useful in itself.

the midi part which comes out of the slicing process is all 'groovy' IE it is where the original beats were, rather than 'on the beat'. It is staggered, shuffled, grooved, etc, etc. not on the grid.

So yes it works like you expect. There are 'on the beat' modes - 16th/8th/4

etc, but I have never used those to be honest. Just the 'warp marker' style one for me as I want the original groove.

Ooh, that's good news, wish you could save em as templates but it's a start i guess.

I'm trying sooo hard to remain aloof to the fact that I went for an after work surf and missed the beta  Saw the most amazing sunset though and got out of the water in darkness, probably the last after work one this year now the nights are drawing in so it was worth it.

Cheers

well, if you got two compressors on a rack chain each, with each one takings side chain from a different source - and then crossfaded those chains via chain select mapped to a macro ... does that answer your question?
well, yes and no. I want to feed two audio sources into one plugin/chain. So that I can crossfade two audio sources before they go to one plugin. Not to two identical plugins, since thats not quite the same. Still, it has me excited.

well, yes you can do it ;

the 'mixing' subrack with two parallel inputs goes before the 'effecting' part of your rack. The whole lot is encapsulated in a parent rack so you can save it as a preset.

Angstrom I hope you're planning on posting a little tutorial with an insight into this modular madness. (pleease!)

Presuming its pretty much the same as Lounge Lizard, it will be a fantastic electric piano plugin. Lounge Lizard is fucking amazing, sounds incredibly realistic to my ears.

jeez, you've just blown my mind with that comment...i noticed & thought about the rex/recycle thing but using it with the EDIT button - man that's gonna be sick
except that would be kind of pointless as you can just slice the clip in Live

you dont get all the transient stuff yet, but you can warp then slice

with an unwarped sample you can right click to create a sliced track each slice is in a simpler, you can adjust all the usual simpler parameters like start and end points

or maybe I'm not catching you.

With the new drum plugins, can they be mapped to GM or whatever you want? Also, is there a possiblity to control hhat open/closed with Vdrums or alesis drum pad control hhat footswitch (both of which I use).

Thanks ABleton for listening to customer feedback, sidechaining, adjustable time signatures and exportable video files especially are cool but nice to see some new synth developments too.

WIll be looking forward to upgrading my license to Live 7 at the appropriate time !

I disagree! No parameter modulation like LFOs or anything like that. I will probably upgrade eventually but not any time soon. Only one or two of the features/fixes are useful to me.

That is of course unless Live now allows plugins to send MIDI?......(CC data etc).....

CRY! Why was there no mail? Bah, I missed the damned beta and my life is ruined. Now I cannot make music for a year (yes it's a joke) :)

Anyways, I'm really miserable for missing out on the beta round. Send out new ones! ;)
