alas, groups only for Drum Tracks.
from the Abes:

"Grouping of tracks is high on our list of things to do for a future Live version, but it's not going to be in Live 7. We are pretty confident that it will be possible to design this feature in a way so that things are not getting chaotic; however, doing this thoroughly takes more time than we had for Live 7."

:?

Very very true. This was one of the only features I was hoping for. Such a waste of time and creative blood sucker it is when you have to constantly search for the track that's in your group...

At least they got support for REX files now though. That was the other feature i was hoping for..

Im verty much hoping you are wrong but if your not this is incredibly sad and completely short sighted. I have always maintained this is not a difficult feature to implement and thought that because its not a juicy feature for PR sales the urgency to add the feature has never been there. I think its been a case of if we have time after finishing adding in features like soft synths.
After five years with this software it genuinely breaks my heart to think this company have ignored again one of the top 3 most requested features since version 2.

Ok a few more I just thought of that have been bugging me through the years:

- Midi editor tools, like reverse, tempo change by %, randomize by %

- Copy and paste of devices and tracks

- The ability to type into a VST (Live currently captures the keyboard and doesn't allow entry of values via the qwerty)

Once again, I will buy the upgrade and none of these omissions will bother me as much as:

- The ability to record automation into session.

- Midi learn per device (like VSTs) so I don't lose hours of mappings by accident.

- Still only 8 Macros! What an artificial limitation!

- Customizable Automaps

And here's hoping the beast is more stable!!!!!

Why all the negativity. Many of your list of priorities are not even on my radar and most of the really big things that needed fixing on my agenda, including multiple views of automation, automatable timing signatures, better MIDI, better audio, sidechaining etc. These missing features in Live 6 and before forced me to have to use Cubase for many applications, now I can reduce my need for that.

If you don't like Live or the upgrades in Live 7 get something else (what else combines this amount of DAW functionality with all the creativity and live performance tools, certainly not Logic or Reaper or Cubase). Or wait, but you'll probably have to wait until about Live 12 to have all the things you want included.

By all means makes suggestions and comments but now we have multiple threads of whining and whingeing on this board.

And another thing ... sidechaining is supposed to be a limited feature, it is limited to compressors and/or EQs in just about any other frigging computer program.

It's just communication.

You work with a program for 6-7 years, you're gonna have arguments from time to time.

Doesn't mean you go murder/suicide and drown all your songs in the bathtub!

..I'm surprised no ones asked for an automatic song generator or a talent button.

Either Ableton is changing strategy and going from now on stricly for the live-performance market and is leaving the DAW-competition, or Live8 will appear sooner than usual and Live7 is only a intermediate upgrade to get a cash-infusion.
Live8 will show it.

would like a talent generator button, and a filter that would allow me to input a song by nickleback and get a good song out the other side... oh well maybe by version 10

What do you base this on? The new nudge function?

Sorry for the rant Kodoma. Yes, wishlists are a good thing as is communication.

On a personal level I am quite impressed with this update. There are always going to be some things that don't get included but overall, I would give Abes a B+ for their effort on this one.

That's what I was hoping this time last year :(
yeah...that was just me with my optimist face on, hehe. The more I look at this the more I see its an awesome update but it doesn't fit into what I do well enough to make it worthwhile for me. If only they'd allow for third party midi plugins then i'd be there!

Have any of the below made it into Live 7:

- Being able to select which rack is "Automapped" (ie. assign a key or midi control that switches between which rack has the little blue hand on it) Or do you still have to click each rack with your mouse

- Are there any changes to the browser, like being able to select and or scroll with a midi controller?

- Can you map any more controls via midi?

What are the improvements to midi?

Anyone found any hidden 'secrets' in the beta like userscripts in live 6?

Are any more midi controllers supported off the shelf (ie, Korg padKontrol, trigger finger etc.)

Operator got a high-quality option that uses alias-free oscillators, and it sounds amazing.
