Just so you know... Live 7 brings the Ruckus

Post by LOFA » Sat Oct 06, 2007 1:49 am

I've been doing things for the last hour with Drum Rack and Slicer that simply make me feel like the ceiling has just been removed from my head... whatever that means!

Think modular. Think cut and paste. Think collapsing fractal spine of workflow architecture carrying it's momentum through your creative process.

Since I feel like embracing the dj/performer side of myself with live I am in heaven. I am yet to come to terms with a definitive performance method through all these new gadgets/doorways, but I am ripping wormholes through my old material!!!!!!

All of these modular tools; follow actions, slicer, midi routing, sidechaining, drum rack, they fit like a glove!

AAAAAAAAAAGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

Somebody start a political post- I'm scared I'm going to disappear in a blur of productivity!

If the Iraqis had weapons of mass drum slicing, would we still have invaded?

I'm sure that stuff is all amazing but your description doesn't make it sound fun or intuitive.

"Think collapsing fractal spine of workflow architecture carrying it's momentum through your creative process." Huh? I can't wait until I get to the level that I actually understand that.

It's just funny seeing the individual descriptions of the "wow factor" with 7. It's like some people are speaking a different language. Some get it and some don't. I still don't know the meaning of half of what the missing features are that people are complaining about. Apparently though they are very important and long over due.

Right. I get it. Here let me make it clearer. When I am not making music, art or working 9-5 I play footbag. I am good at footbag. Been doing it like 15 years. Right now I feel like I can finally take these ideas I get and execute them with very little resistance. It's like I'm dancing through my workflow. Very complicated dance. But well strung-together, technical, and pulsing.

Hell yeah!

The money I was going to spend on the lucifer plugin is so totally going somewhere...

I hear he's designing some rack-instruments for live... those are going to be fucked up.

 that's just LOFA - he's the moody intellectual philosopher of the forum

actually I have had exactly the same experience with the slicer+drum racks+sidechaining - getting them onto a controller is awesome

I wasn't clowning you or your description and it's great that they introduced features that will help your creativity. It's just fun watching people's verbal explosion of appreciation put in words that make sense to them. Or maybe to everybody except me. :D

Thank you for the kind words Forge :D Manic too would fit.

I don't even know what I am talking about.

I'm in a cafe in PGH because I wanted to get out of the house and USE THIS THING!
And I swear I am scaring people right now with the grin on my face.

BTW, Ladytron's evil, let the music play, and NIN's warm place are doing a very special thing on their own right now that is hotter than... well enough of the broken metaphors

I would suggest just typing Vasek in youtube. It's closest physical example of what music looks like in my head. I got sucked right in. Once I get the right accelerometor...

My world is caving in right now with creative responsibilitie on top of this beta test.

I spent all week doing this kakhi-polo-shirt day job... now it's the weekend and I feel like I just got f%^&d by lighting!

Thanks for listening!

Anyway, I was just trying to say that I have not had a cerbral/endorphine high mousing around on laptop the way I get impacting my bones against concrete and at hard sharp angles before. So, uh, I like the beta

Alright I think I figured something informative to say.

I am moving around in live now like I used to earlier versions, but now I am making more of the kinds of decisions and getting the sort of results I started getting when I dug my teeth into max msp. It is insane because everything is so modular but live is still a beast with its own integrity and structure. And therefore limitations.

Live is becoming very, very deep, and has proven to be an unbelievable agile medium. Especially now with the crash-free performance I am getting-I think it really is an instrument again.
