MIDI NOTE LATENCY

Is this normal to have 40ms of latency between the MIDI CLip played and the return Audio of the external expander ????

I have tested on 2 differents MIDI out BOX ( emagic MT4 and DIGI002R): they both send midi notes with 40 ms of delay.

For sure I can use Delay compensation on each MIDI TRACK , but why is there not a GENERAL DELAY MIDI Compensation as with AUDIO CARD.

Hi,

What are your 'driver error compensation' settings in Live's audio preferences? Also, how exactly are your devices connected? Do you monitor your external expander through Live? How exactly do you determine that the MIDI latency is 40ms?

Hi Nis

My driver error compensation is set at 6ms for audio ....but this is not the topic.....I talked about MIDI , not audio.

I have no problem with audio latency after setting the error compensation.

I use a SUNSYN as external Synth. I monitor the sunsyn in Live.

I create a midi track with one Note on each beat of 2 measures ( so 8 notes at 125 Bpm).

I assign the midi track to the sunsyn via MT4 Emagic or DIGI002 R port MIdi ( same issue).

In the same time I record a kick for 2 measures: the waveform is perfectly in sync after record.
Then I record the SUNSYN on my monitor track and I look to the waveform : the notes are 40 ms after the beat........

If I deselect "automatic compensation delay" in the menu Option and I record a new pass....... then the sunsyn is only 15 ms after the beat.

I really don't understand why LIVE has this enormous latency with midi.

I used the Delay correction on the MIDI track ( -40ms) and then the SUNSYN is in sync....... But this Delay correction only work on a track which plays a clip ..... If I use an external SEQUENCER ( MAQ16/3) , all the notes which arrive in LIVE will be delayed of 40 ms to the midi out port.

I am trying LIVE since one week for replacing PROTOOLS which has a bad MIDI BEAT CLOCK , but I can see that LIVE is not so perfect whith MIDI TIMING.

I tested on 2 differents MIDI OUT BOX.

Here is a configuration where it is impossible to compensate the latency MIDI:

LIVE send MIDI CLOCK via MT4 port1 to MAQ16/3
MAQ16/3 out is connected to PORT1 MT4 IN
In LIVE I have 3 midi tracks : for each channel of the MAQ
These 3 tracks are routed to MT4 out port for the SUNSYN, KENTON PROSOLO etc
I monitor ( and record) all my hardware Synth in LIVE audio Track.
So the MIDI notes the MAQ passes thru LIVE and are dispatched to my external synths..... and in this configuration LIVE delays all MIDI notes with 40ms ( which is enormous).

I have made the same test in PROTOOLS..... the latency on MIDI notes is about 1ms ( which is inaudible).
