I like it, smooth magnetic x-fader with adjustable curves, hamster switch...

I don't think it sends MIDI yet, though I think it'll get new firmware after Serato updates their software. The double joystick style & overall layout are pretty slick.

Without owning it, Serato seems a little like the opposite of Live.

I do admire the brilliant things about their interface & think there's no shame in Ableton ripping it off a little, and I'm jealous of the famous stability + tightness, and the upcoming video thing really tempts me.

But they still keep it pretty basic somehow, there's not really any extras or customizability and they don't seem interested in cooperating with other software.

Yeah I got one and I use it with Ableton + ASIO drivers. Its sick.

The controls are excellent and it is rock solid with Serato.
The Effects are cool but i aint used them on a big system yet.
Serato is for DJ's like LIVE is for electronic music. It just works well.

The new video options in 1.8 look very very cool too.

If you can afford one. Get it.

I like using it as a 2 input recorder that lets me do cool cuts on the sounds.

this mixer alone has one of the best faders in the market. then it comes with serato built in. i have done some gigs with serato and another mixer and that alone is good enough. the only reason you would need this is if you don't have a mixer or you are one crazy turntablist.

but if you just want serato and you just beat match with the occasional scratching, then whatever mixer you have with serato is all you need.

This is my first DJ mixer. I bought 1200's two years ago and I've been slowly trying to narrow down what I want from a mixer.

I had this heavy revelation last week. I was playing around and scratching a record, and it hit me. There are some shitty throw away LPs in my collection that I don't mind messing up by putting my hands on and scratching. But there are hundreds of albums in my collection that I cherish, and there's no way I'd feel comfortable putting my fingers on the grooves.

I realized I would really benefit from having a timecode vinyl disc system. Then I could scratch any of my records that I digitize. I really like the idea of making recordings and then scratching them too.

So you're using Ableton and Serato on a PC laptop I take it? Are you running both applications on the same computer at the same time?

I have been very interested in Serato for a whlle but I dont get why the TTM doesn't use midi- why do they go for the proprietary control system? It just seem to be a closed loop system, and keeps me away from Serato because my existing gear wont integrate with it.

Yeah I have used Serato + Live together on an IBM T40 1.5ghz Laptop
running xp.

but it was just for fun, not sure if its uber-stable but it worked great for me.

I think osx supports multiple soundcards though.

How's that working out for ya?

Yeah, when I get back I'll be lookin to invest in a soundcard / DJ mixer hybrid.

I'm just disappointed that the TTM-57SL only does 16 bit output. Very wack. It's doubly wack because Rane's MP-4 DOES do 24 bit, so it's obvious to me that they have the drivers and hardware ability to do so, but "cut corners" for some reason on the TTM-57SL.

Sigh.

Another example of how the masses' worship of all things mp3 and ignorance of 24 bit audio is lowering the bar for all of us. Looks like I might have to blow the bucks on an A&H solution.

the 56 is awesome.

I really don't need or deserve this mixer, but it's worth it for the faders...
