this thread made me hungry, it's fries for lunch, no doubt.

fries with mayo - tasty!! twice fried, thin cut with any topping I can find. even in fancy schmancy restaurants I gotta try the fries (Absinthe here in SF has GREAT fries.)

French and Dutch were mentioned, so, English is heard less often? what's the weather like? what's on peoples' minds in Belgium as far as politics and culture?
In my life
Why do I smile
At people who I'd much rather kick in the eye?

aoouch.. politics.. hot topic at the moment..
they have to form a new government but the french and dutch cannot come to a formation..
they 'might' split up..
the netherlands will be glad to adopt the dutch speaking parts..
the country was even for sale on eBay.. no joke!

and ofcourse they struggle, as the rest of eu countries, with right wing, populist political fuckers..

but they're still king of bears ofcourse.. last discovered gem; Karmeliet.. damn tasty..

I'm from the UK originally and can tell you that dipping fries in mayonnaise is not a universal European thing, you will never find mayo and chips on the menu in Britain.

Although to be fair, it is actually not as bad as you might think, had it in Germany and it was OK. And croque-monsieurs are freaking awesome !

I like Belgium. Travelled Europe several times, Brussels and Bruges are definately worth visiting from a tourist point of view.

The 2 languages isn't a good integration though, it's almost like 2 seperate countries with the walloons (the French speakers) in a bad position because they have the piss taken out of them not only by the Flemish (Dutch) speaking Belgians but also by the French, who think the Walloons are worthy of all their idiot jokes. It isn't this let's all live in peace and harmony scenario, some people harbour resentment toward the other.
